About The Archives

Established in 1979 through the generosity of a testamentary bequest by Edith Baillie Serson (daughter of Sir Frank and Lady Edith Baillie), Appleby College Archives holds the school's official records from 1908 to the present and includes records and publications of faculty and administration, alumni and affiliated associations such as the Parents' Association. The Archives contains other materials such as photographs, drawings, paintings, portraits, maps and plans of the campus, video and audio tapes, and computer media, as well as artifacts such as trophies, plaques, sports boards, medals, badges, pins, school and sports uniforms, and furniture. The Archives houses and promotes the importance of Appleby's institutional memory for students, alumni, employees and the community at large.

Archives Exhibition: Voices From The Great War

When World War One erupted, Appleby School (now College) had barely finished its third year. Twenty-seven Appleby boys and six employees went off to fight for their country. Nine gave their lives, four more were wounded and two were taken as prisoners. The exhibit, Lest We Forget: Voices from the Great War, runs from October 15, 2009 to January, 31, 2010, and tells the stories of these heroes through handwritten letters and photographs. The display is located outside the Samuel Academic Resource Centre and is part of the Hometown Stories: Oakville Memories of War project.
