Appleby College Summer ESL Program


The Appleby College Summer ESL Program offers students from around the world the opportunity to experience life as an Appleby student. Our ESL program, is a secondary school credit-bearing course with rigorous academic expectations complemented by a full schedule of exciting excursions, offering credits in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Education. Our program provides an unparalleled boarding experience at one of the most beautiful campuses in Canada where students from all over the world are immersed in Canadian culture and form long-lasting friendships across nationalities and languages. Our program is designed for students aged 12 to 16 years who are motivated to advance their English skills in an overseas boarding experience, as well as those who intend to attend secondary school or university in English speaking countries such as Canada or the USA. We offer a wide range of programs in July and August to suit individual needs with credit-bearing programs.

Full-week off-campus cultural trip

The Canadian Cultural Trip is a 6-day cultural learning trip to Ottawa, Canada's capital city and Montreal. Students will explore the rich history and culture of Canada by visiting the city of Kingston (the first capital of the Province of Canada), the current capital city of Ottawa, and the largest French-speaking Canadian city, Montreal. Teachers will deliver lessons on Canadian history, politics, and culture at university campuses in Ottawa and Montreal, where students will also reside during their trip.

Boarding program fees include:

110 hours of ESL classroom instruction per week; Certificate of Completion; Individual Study Record; on campus shared accommodation; three buffet-style meals daily plus snacks and fruits; 24/7 supervision by residential counselors; use of Appleby’s sports facilities; off-campus excursions on Friday nights and weekends; all costs associated with the Cultural Trip to Ottawa and Montreal including transportation and overnight accommodations (in select programs); medical insurance during the program; all land transportation during program; airport transfers.


Boarding fees do NOT include:

Airfare, visa fee, custodianship letter if needed, or personal spending money.

  2. Photocopy of first page of passport, clearly showing photo.

Program Fee Payment

Payment is due in full within 5-10 business days once applicant has been contacted and accepted into the program. Program fees can be paid by credit card or wire transfer. (Instructions for wire transfer can be found on the last page of the Application Form.) Day students may also choose to pay by certified check.

Letter of Acceptance

A Letter of Acceptance (LOA) in PDF format will be sent via email upon completion of the application process once all required documentation has been received, the application has been approved and program fee has been paid in full.

If you require an original and/or notarized copy of the Letter of Acceptance, and/or any other documents for visa purposes, please indicate this request at the time of application. Fees associated with notarization and/or additional documentation may apply.

Refund Policy

Cancellations or session changes received on or after May 1, 2018 are not eligible for a refund.

Notice of student withdrawal must be made in writing to the Summer ESL office at All refunds and course changes are subject to a $200 administrative fee. Full refunds will only be issued with proof of visa denial or medical emergency, supported by certification from a legally qualified medical practitioner not related to the student. All other cancellations before May 1 are eligible for a 50% refund. Cancellations on or after May 1, 2018 will not receive a refund.
