Our students come from more than 40 countries allowing students to learn alongside peers from around the world and to build long-lasting cross-cultural friendships.

Appleby College Summer ESL Program

The Appleby College Summer ESL Program offers students from around the world the opportunity to experience life as an Appleby student. Our ESL program, inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education, is a secondary school credit-bearing course with rigorous academic expectations complemented by a full schedule of exciting excursions. Our program provides an unparalleled boarding experience at one of the most beautiful campuses in Canada where students from all over the world are immersed in Canadian culture and form long-lasting friendships across nationalities and languages. Our program is designed for students aged 12 to 16 years who are motivated to advance their English skills in an overseas boarding experience, as well as those who intend to attend secondary school or university in English speaking countries such as Canada or the USA. We offer a wide range of programs in July and August to suit individual needs with credit-bearing programs.

Some of our program features include:

  • Strong and focused academic nature

  • Safe and supportive environment

  • Highly qualified instructors and counselors

  • Small class size with an average of 10 students per class

  • Five levels of English classes to fit student's individual needs

  • Fun and engaging activities and excursions

  • Full week outdoor education trips included in the program

Two choices of full-week outdoor education trips:

The Temagami Canoe Trip has been designed in the image of Appleby College’s renowned Outdoor Education Program to foster confidence, teamwork and leadership skills while having fun canoeing and adventuring in the frontier wilderness of northern Ontario.

Over the course of week, students will spend nights in cabins at the base camp and in tents along the portage route. They will be in small teams of 8 to 10 students learning technical skills associated with wilderness survival and travel such as outdoor cooking, setting up tents, canoeing, fishing and navigation. In addition to outdoor education counselors and guides, their English teachers will also accompany students to deliver lessons in the outdoor environment. Please click here to see last year's exciting adventure!

The Canadian Cultural Trip is a special edition 6-day learning trip to Ottawa, Canada's capital city and Montreal. Students will explore the rich history and culture of Canada by visiting the city of Kingston (the first capital of the Province of Canada), the current capital city of Ottawa, and the largest French-speaking Canadian city-Montreal. Teachers will deliver lessons on Canadian history and culture at a university campus in Ottawa where students will also reside during their trip.
