Young Round Square is a junior level association of Round Square, referring to students in grades 7 and 8 who are of the 12 to 14 year old age group.
Young Round Square was developed to introduce the philosophy of Round Square to students at an early age; emphasizing the strong underlying belief that learning is best done by doing. It is an ongoing process of self-confrontation and formation, involving a fundamental objective of the full and individual development of every student into a whole person - academically, physically, culturally and spiritually, within the supportive environment of a school community.
This underlying belief also embraces the importance of service to others, adventure and leadership training, responsibility and international understanding. All these are essential in preparing young people to meet the challenges of the future with confidence and compassion.
Opportunities exist for Appleby’s grade 7 and 8 students to attend conferences and take leadership roles that promote activism through our Young Round Square Club. Our club members also support service, adventure and environmental initiatives.
Additionally, each year a number of Appleby’s grade 7 and 8 students spend time at other schools across Canada, to expose those students to different experiences nationwide. These experiences are an exchange of visits between families. Students apply to participate in an exchange and applications and information is available in the early fall information session. The exchanges for this age-group are two weeks in length.
