If you ask an Appleby student what he or she likes about the school, you will hear the answer that Appleby College is truly a community. From the moment a student steps on the campus, he/she feels part of a large caring family. Appleby students, staff and parents work diligently to extend this feeling beyond our campus.
One of the ways this is realized is through our service learning program. At Appleby, service learning is an integral part of every day. Appleby has a wide variety of service co-curricular placements and service clubs, led by caring and compassionate faculty members. Students learn to appreciate the needs of their local community and acquire an understanding of social issues.
While Appleby’s requirements cover the Ministry of Education’s mandated hours of community involvement, many students earn many more hours than necessary. In fact, students are proud of the excess number of hours they earn, with some students obtaining an additional 50-100 hours per year! At Appleby, the true measure of success is the student who stops counting hours and simply gives back because helping others is the right thing to do.
