How to get a Criminal Record Check 

The Policy: To ensure the safety and protection of our students and as part of our ongoing risk-management program, Appleby College requires all school employees, faculty and volunteers to have a Criminal Record Check (CRC) completed (also known as Police Screening or Security Clearance Check) including a Vulnerable Sector Check. For volunteers, CRCs must be completed before volunteering begins and Appleby requests that all volunteers obtain this clearance on their own.  To continue volunteering, Appleby requires a current CRC to be completed every five years.  In addition the Declaration Re Criminal Record, must be completed each year during the application process.

 

Where to go: Municipality procedures have recently changed and residents can only obtain a Police Screening Check from the Municipality in which they reside. 

 

For residents of Halton (includes Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills):

  • This service can be obtained from Police Stations including Headquarters at 1151 Bronte Road Oakville, and 20 Division at 95 Oak Walk Drive, Oakville. For more information or to apply online please click this link http://www.policesolutions.ca/checks/services/halton/index.php
  • Every second year (even years), the school attempts to have the Halton Region Police Service visit the Appleby campus to conduct CRCs of both employees and volunteers. Check ATW to see more current information on dates and times.

 

For residents of Peel (includes Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga):

 

For both Halton and Peel you must apply in person with two pieces of valid government-issued identification. One must include the applicant's name, date of birth and photo. There is a small fee for this service.

Toronto Residents:  Please visit Gemma in Appleby’s HR department for further details.

Once completed: Once the completed CRC is received, the original copy should to be brought in an envelope addressed to, Ms. A. Jelinek Director of Parent Relations, and left at NAC Reception.  It will be verified and entered into our database. Please indicate on the envelope if you wish the original to be returned to use for other organizations. Appleby will ensure that information received from CRCs remains strictly confidential.

 

Renewal & Disclosure: To continue volunteering, Appleby requires a current CRC to be completed every two years and a Declaration Re Criminal Record to be completed each year. However, if a volunteer is charged with an offence or convicted of an offence after the date of his/her most recent CRC, it must be reported immediately and may require further information including an updated CRC. Failure to report this information may result in the cessation of the volunteer’s duties.
