A Major Announcement About Global Education

Providing our students with an educational experience that contributes to their development as global citizens is a core part of who we are as a school. Today, global perspectives and understanding are strongly embedded elements of the Appleby experience, with close to 70% of our graduating students having participated in a meaningful Appleby global experience. This is a tremendous accomplishment, but we feel we can do more.

We are very excited and proud therefore to announce that the Appleby College Board of Governors has approved the inclusion of a global learning experience as a core requirement of the Appleby College Diploma starting with September 2018’s incoming Upper One class, the graduating Class of 2022. These students and successive classes, will now be required to participate in a global learning experience at some point between Upper One (grade 9) and Senior Two (grade 12). Those students who are entering Upper Two, Senior One, and Senior Two next year are encouraged to participate in a global experience. However, it will not be a requirement of achieving their Appleby College Diploma. There will be many options at different times of the year, including international service, intercultural, expedition/trek, field studies, or language immersion programmes, as well as exchanges and Round Square International conferences that students will have the opportunity to participate in.

While we are still working through some of the details of the programme, we wanted to share this news with our community today. This change will further enhance the Appleby student experience and is the first major change to Appleby’s diploma requirements in over 25 years. We hope you share our excitement!

Please click here to hear what our students have to say regarding their own global learning experiences and the impact they had on their Appleby experience.
