Appleby students will soon be preparing for their June exams. A busy and sometimes challenging time of year, students are encouraged to view this period as an opportunity to apply the academic knowledge and understanding they've worked so hard to achieve over the course of the term.

Exams will be held from Wednesday, June 13 to Wednesday, June 20, please click here for the timetable. Exams will be written in different locations on campus and students need to be aware of both the place and time. Monday, June 11 and Tuesday, June 12 are designated as review days, please click here for the schedule. During the exam period, Middle Two students will showcase their Presentations of Learning (POL). These digital portfolios are a culminating event celebrating student academic and affective growth as they finish Middle School and will highlight meaningful learning experiences for teachers, peers, Home Form advisors, and parents across all aspects of their learning at Appleby.

After reviewing the exam timetable, students should organize a study schedule and ensure they have all required course materials. It's also important that they back-up their work on their laptops; if help is needed in doing so, please visit the IT Department for assistance. To prepare for examinations, students should focus on the essential understandings of each course, eat well and maintain a regular sleep cycle. Also, last-minute studying and cramming should be avoided, instead, follow a schedule that will ensure there is time to study for each class. Be sure to arrive at school (in full uniform) a minimum of 30-minutes before an exam.

Appleby's advisors and guidance counsellors are wonderful resources for study tips and techniques. Students are encouraged to contact the guidance department for assistance if needed.

Good luck everyone!

Campus Road Maintenance

Over the May long weekend, annual road maintenance will be taking place throughout campus. Asphalt repairs will be completed and directional pavement markings will be applied to the inner ring road. In addition, designated drop-off zones will be marked with painted lines outside each residence and in the bus lay-by areas in front of the Nicholas Arts Centre and adjacent to East Field. If you have any questions, please contact  Ken Rivers, director, facilities operations.

Students Attend HotDocs Festival Screening of Believer

On May 2, students enrolled in Media Studies: Media, Info. and Technoculture, travelled to the Ted Rogers Cinema in Toronto to watch the HotDocs Festival documentary Believer. Reynolds, a Mormon himself, teams up with an openly gay Mormon singer (Tyler Glenn of Neon Trees) to create the LoveLoud Festival, which challenges the rules around gay marriage and the acceptance of LGBTQ community members in the Mormon faith. The students participated in a Q&A with Don Argott immediately following the screening.
