PRESIDENT'S WELCOME Happy New Year from the ACPA!
We had a wonderful and busy fall term with many events and a fantastic turnout from our Appleby parent community. It has been wonderful to meet many of you and be a part of your support for the school.
Leading into the holiday season, we had a large group participate in our annual Appleby College Parents' Association (ACPA) tree trimming and chapel decorating day. A huge thank you to Bridget van Akkooi and Charlotte Copeland for revamping the decorations on all the trees. Everything was beautiful!
In addition, our fall wreath fundraiser sold out and many homes were warmly decorated with wreaths and poinsettias. Thanks to Ann Watkin for her hard work on this activity. Stay tuned for the graduation floral sale. Details will be in a future issue of Appleby This Week for the pre-sale dates and orders will be available for pick-up on Closing Day.
Coming up this spring we are looking forward to the big move of our College Shop into its new location in the A.W.B. Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life and the launch of the new online College Shop after March Break. Cheryl Lewis-Smith and her team have been preparing for these transitions, thank you.
Please join us for the All-School Play, Les Misérables - School Edition, which will be held at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts on February 26 and 27. Those attending the February 27 performance are invited to join us for a post-show reception in the foyer. Also, our parent social event (a pub night, come on out!) will be held at the Oakville Club on February 28.
Finally, the Field of Dreams Gala is now 'SOLD OUT' and promises to be a night to remember. I look forward to seeing you all there!
Thank you very much to the best ACPA Executive team I could imagine. Your enthusiasm and dedication have given a special energy to the school this year. I am lucky to be working with all of you.
Have a happy and healthy 2019 everyone.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Flemington 2018-2019 Appleby College Parents' Association President ![]() ACPA 2019-2020 Executive Nominations

Without this amazing group of people, our school would not be the wonderful place it is for our children.
The 2019 Employee Appreciation Luncheon will be held on Thursday, April 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. in the Schlesinger Dining Hall. All Appleby employees are invited to the luncheon, as a way of expressing our gratitude for their tireless efforts throughout the year.
This luncheon is a great opportunity for parents to volunteer, meet new parents and help say a big "Thank You!" Its success depends on the enthusiasm of our volunteers. All food is provided by parents or parent donations and the dining hall is transformed. It is easy to get involved, you can bring a dish, or help volunteer to serve/wait tables or both. It is a wonderful day showing the true community spirit of our school and everyone is always overjoyed with the fantastic food our parents provide and the way in which they are truly made to feel appreciated!
To sign-up for food contributions, to volunteer, or for more information, please e-mail Suzanne Williamson or Daisy Li, ACPA Grade Parties & staff appreciation. ACPA in Action ACPA Tree Trimming Decks the Halls A huge thank you to all the wonderful parents who braved a freezing cold day to deck the halls for Appleby's students and employees on November 22. This year some new tree designs were introduced. Our wonderful craft volunteers helped decorate two Appleby 'double blue' trees with handmade ornaments in the Barr Common Room and Schlesinger Dining Hall. They also painted 55 flag ornaments for every nationality represented at Appleby for the new international tree in the dining hall foyer. The new Canada tree was decorated with maple leaf flags, winter sports, animal and other cozy Canadiana ornaments. Many thanks to the Poirier family for donating the tree and other ornaments. Also, a warm thank you to Andy Jelinik, director, parent relations and Kristy Marasco, alumni and parent relations officer, the Appleby faculty who attended the event, the Sodexo staff for the delicious treats, our dedicated ACPA members, Appleby's facilities team, and everyone who helped make the morning a wonderful success. It was a great start to the festive season! Please click here to see additional photos. ACPA Coffee Morning On January 24, all Appleby parents were invited to join the ACPA at the Principal's Residence for breakfast and conversation. Many new Appleby parents were in attendance and had the opportunity to learn more about the ACPA. I have had the honour of taking on the role of this year's ACPA Athletic Spirit Representative. I love the school spirit and seeing students, parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, and employees come out to cheer on our Blue Dogs!
If you haven't had an opportunity to check out one of our athletics games I strongly encourage you to. I always look forward to welcoming parents and family members while distributing snacks, drinks, treats and spirit gear to help cheer on our amazing teams! I am very appreciative of everyone who has donated snacks or has helped out. It just goes to show how great the Appleby community is. Everyone has warmed my heart and made this year amazing!
I am loving this role and all the spirit and interaction that comes with it. The students and parents who come out to support our Blue Dog teams make a huge difference! Please come out to as many games as you can to show your support.
