PRESIDENT'S WELCOME An Event-Filled Year at Appleby College
This year, the Appleby College Parents' Association (ACPA) was successful in creating a positive and engaging environment for both students and families.
I am lucky to be part of the great team that makes up the 2018 - 2019 ACPA Executive. This team has generously volunteered their time and skills at numerous events on campus with smiles, laughter and fun along the way.
I am thankful for the tremendous support and energy from all of Appleby's employees and the Sodexo team. They have gone above and beyond with their time and effort throughout our eventful year.
Most recently, on April 25, the ACPA demonstrated its gratitude to Appleby employees at our annual Employee Appreciation Luncheon. A team of over 100 volunteers did a great job preparing and serving over 70 different delicious dishes, and from the employees' reactions it was another great success.
The ACPA Annual General Meeting (AGM) takes place on Tuesday, June 4 in Willis Hall at 11:00 a.m. Please join us in welcoming the new ACPA Executive for the 2019 - 2020 school year and thank retiring Executive and faculty members. The AGM is followed by the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the Principal's Residence.
Appleby's Closing Day ceremony takes place on Friday, June 21. Don't forget to purchase and pre-order floral arrangements and bouquets for your graduate or anyone you would like to thank.
I am extremely honoured to have served as your President of the ACPA for 2018 - 2019. I owe a special thanks to Andy Jelinek, director, parent relations. Her knowledge, support and creative ideas made this year a special one for all of us. Of course, I'd also like to give a huge thank you to my colleagues on the ACPA Executive. You are a special group of friends.
Next year's executives are an energetic and talented group and I am confident that they will bring fresh ideas and energy to all our events. I wish them much success.
Thank you all for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Flemington Past President's Message
Our incredible Field of Dreams Gala provided a glimpse into the thought and planning behind the A.W.B. Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life. Students and alumni will definitely benefit from this monumental new building.
The ACPA also had its first ever ACPA Service Day. This evening activity, which welcomed parents, employees and students, benefitted Food for Life in Burlington. The rewarding event showcased that, we as parents, can be great role models to our children and that together we can support and build our community.
The numerous events held throughout the year could not have been so well executed without the generous assistance from our committed parent volunteers and dedicated employees. I thank you.
Next year will no doubt be another exciting one, as the ACPA welcomes parents, extended family members and alumni to volunteer their time and skills. You all make a difference in the lives of the Appleby community. Please contact any of the ACPA Executive.
While I look forward to Closing Day on Friday, June 21, it is with mixed emotions. After five years of volunteering with the ACPA, I will be relocating to Europe next year. So I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the volunteers and friends I have had the pleasure working with. I am thankful for the trust put in me by the ACPA to fulfill my roles. And, lastly, I would like to thank Andy Jelinek, director, parent relations, for making my year as President and Past President of the ACPA remarkable.
It has been an honour and I will always treasure the memories.
Sincerely,
Chantal Poirier

ACPA in Action All-School Play Reception The ACPA Parents' Social: Pub Quiz at the Oakville Club Thank you to all the parents who came out for the ACPA Winter Social event on February 28, which took the theme of a Pub Quiz Night at the Oakville Club. Nick Jelinek '87 (husband of Appleby's director of parent relations Andy Jelinek) was a great Master of Ceremonies and Quizmaster who managed to stump the teams with tough questions! In the end, it was the 'Appleby Enigma' team (made up of Lindsey and Andy Williams, Chris and Laura Hughes, Karen Mary Penn and Kevin Comeau and Mike van Akkooi) who took home the grand prize! While many had never participated in a pub quiz before, the competition was fierce. The ACPA hopes to make this an annual event to bring parents together. Thank you to everyone involved in making it a fabulous night! Please click here to see additional photos. ACPA Employee Appreciation Lunch The 2019 ACPA Employee Appreciation Luncheon was held on April 25. The Schlesinger Dining Hall was transformed into an elegant, white wonderland, filled with delicious food and drink, for our amazing employees to enjoy. Over 100 parent volunteers helped prepare and serve over 70 delicious dishes. On behalf of the ACPA, thank you for a tremendously successful event. Please click here to see additional photos. ![]()
2019 Gala Field of Dreams Thank you to the Appleby College community for supporting the 2019 Gala Field of Dreams on April 27. It was a night to remember – from the fantastic entertainment and dancing to the exciting silent and live auctions, and of course, the great company! The Gala also gave attendees a sneak peek of Appleby's new, state-of-the-art A.W.B. Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life. Inaugural ACPA Service Event This year, the ACPA held its first ever service event. On May 2, over 90 parents, students and employees supported Food for Life as they participated in The Big Sort event as well as some fun and games. The evening began in Willis Hall, where participants learned about the Food for Life organization and were arranged into teams. Participants then travelled together to the Forestview Church Without Walls where they sorted produce for food distribution while competing in various activities for the winning trophy. Thank you to Andy Jelinek, director, parent relations, for creating this special service event for parents to spend time learning and participating with students.
