A Homecoming to Remember!
Posted October 21, 2014
On September 26 and 27, the Appleby community came together to celebrate the past and present during Homecoming 2014. Over 200 student, faculty and staff volunteers, welcomed more than 800 guests to campus over the course of the two days! Members of the Appleby community attended and participated in an unprecedented number of events and activities which made Homecoming 2014 a weekend to remember.
Members of the 50-Year Club and other visiting alumni returned to campus on the Friday to attend the Founder’s Day Chapel service in the morning followed by the 50-Year Club Luncheon at the Principal’s Residence. To share the words of visiting alumnus, Robert Fleming ’43, “It was a treat to revisit Appleby and to find that our school of yesteryear, which my brother and I so much enjoyed, has morphed into a sparkling new campus without losing any of that wonderful feeling from the past.”
The 25-Year Reunion Dinner was extremely well attended. Members of the Class of 1989 returned to campus on the Friday evening, following a casual day of golf on the greens at Piper’s Heath. The night began with cocktails in the Samuel Academic Resource Centre followed by dinner at the Principal’s Residence. Alumni and alumni faculty in attendance, Brian O’Leary, John Berriman, Sandra Taylor, Jennifer Neal, Willie and John Canham, enjoyed what was a “truly special occasion, full of shared memories and laughter.”
Mother Nature provided nothing but blue skies and sunshine on Saturday for Homecoming Day and it was great to see the Appleby spirit on display throughout the day as alumni, parents, students, alumni parents and grandparents, employees and friends of Appleby enjoyed the festivities – from the delicious Pancake Breakfast, to Appleby’s first-ever Blue Dog Pep Rally, the Welcome Home Barbecue and the Alumni Concession Stand. Later that evening alumni from the classes ending in ‘4’ and ‘9’ reconnected during the Reunions Dinner.
