Welcome back! The start of 2015 has shown much promise within the world of Athletics. With new resolutions and a new focus, our students and coaches seem more determined than ever to succeed. Appleby’s swim teams definitely exemplified the spirit of perseverance by battling the elements this week and holding practice in a pool where temperatures only reached the 60’s!! I am sure that their practices resembled the Polar Bear dip on New Year’s day along the shores of Lake Ontario.
The Junior D2 volleyball team captured another win, and capturing the attention of all of her teammates is the play of Grace Danner. Grace is playing volleyball for the first time and coach Ronfeld has been impressed with her knack for picking up the game.
From the volleyball court to the squash court, Jeremy Rosseau had an incredibly strong performance on Wednesday winning all of his matches except one. Coach Stewart spoke highly of Jeremy’s ability to knock off Crescent School’s number one ranked player! Congrats Jeremy.
Another outstanding performance came on the ice this week. Sam Gaskin stood on his head between the pipes facing a very formidable opponent in St. Mikes. Sam faced over 60 shots and helped our Junior Blue Dogs battle to a 2-2 draw.
Lastly, We would like to congratulate Ms. Lane on doing a wonderful job filling in as head coach for our Varsity Girls hockey team. Unfortunately Ms. Devereaux was feeling under the weather, and Ms. Lane stepped up and represented the Blue Dogs with honour. We applaud your efforts Ms. Lane!
