There is no secret to achieving great results. Often, coaches and athletes will complicate their goals and aspirations by believing that success is determined by the uniform they wear, or the facility they play in, or a special piece of equipment they use, or the shoes on their feet. Ultimately, the end result of any success you achieve comes down to how hard you are willing to work. There is no secret ingredient to success, just hard work- pretty simple. The sacrifices you make when you are part of a team, will speak to how successful you will be. As our fall season draws to a close, many of our teams and students achieved great results because they were willing to work hard!
Coach Kindree speaks about her U14 Girls basketball team with great pride. She firmly believes that this has been an incredible season for these young ladies and the strongest showing for this group in recent years. The team had their final game of the season against HTS and were down 15 points in the second half! With hard work and pressure, pressure, pressure, the girls clawed their way back. The end result was a disappointing 40-39 defeat, but the girls scored an unprecedented 25 points in the second half! Grace Beer led the charge and her teammates quickly responded to her efforts by laying it all on the line until the final whistle. Ladies- you made us proud!
The hard work of Matt Daxner and Mariah Meston paid off during the CISAA cross country championships last week. Both finished 9th in their respective fields, and will now go on and represent Appleby at OFSAA. Congratulations!
Our U14 field hockey team went undefeated in their season and came up against a feisty SJK team in the semi-final. The girls fought hard and never gave up, but unfortunately fell short in a 1-0 decision. Ms. Cater and Ms. Devereaux loved coaching this team because of how hard they were willing to work! The girls showed a great deal of pride by going on to win the consolation final with 4-2 victory over Ridley. Well done!
The U14 Boys volleyball team traveled to UCC this past weekend for playoff competition. The boys finished in first place this season and only suffered 1 loss. The boys won their semi-final game against Greenwood and went on to face UCC in the championship. They took the first game in a nail biter 27-25, but they were not able to take any more games and ended up as league finalists. Coach Truong was amazed at the level of hitting, passing, and even blocking that the team displayed. This has been one the best results for a U14 volleyball team at Appleby! Hold your head high gentlemen!
9 is a magic number when it comes to our Jr. Girls field hockey team. The final 4 for this league took place at Appleby this past weekend and our Blue Dogs dominated! The girls won the semi-final game 9-0, and then went on to take the championship game against TCS 9-0. What makes this more interesting, Sarah Kosturik scored a total of 9 goals in these two games!!! A truly incredible feat. Congratulations and well done!
Lastly, our Varsity Girls field hockey team defeated SJK in the semi-final 5-0. Annie MacDonald had a strong game and scored a hat trick to secure the victory. The girls have an opportunity to win an incredible 4 consecutive championships, or 5 in the last 6 years. The game will be played on Tuesday at 3pm and the team would love your support! Come out and cheer your Blue Dogs to victory!
Work hard and great results will come
