Inclusion Support

Accessibility & Inclusion at Appleby College Camps

At Appleby College Camps we are committed to an environment rooted in accessibility, inclusion, and respect. We aim to ensure that every camper can participate fully in our programs. Services and supports are provided in ways that uphold the dignity and independence of each participant.

Sometimes, additional support helps make camp a positive, successful experience. We partner with families to explore the best option for each camper.

Support Pathways

  • Appleby provided 1:1 support

  • Registration for Inclusion Support at time of camp registration is required

  • Family provided 1:1 support

  • Informing the Camp Office a request for family provided 1:1 support is required

Please include all relevant needs or challenges in the Participant Information Form at the time of registration. If your camper requires 1:1 support, feel free to contact the Camps Office before applying to discuss options.

Appleby Provided 1-1 Support

What it is

The Appleby Provided 1-1 Inclusion Program supports campers who require dedicated support and/or specific accommodations to participate successfully in daily camp programming. Inclusion Facilitators are selected for their specialized education, training, and related experience. Their role is to integrate campers into existing programs and modify activities as needed to support success, safety, and engagement.

Capacity & Placements

With a high volume of requests for 1:1 Inclusion support, our ability to accommodate is dependent on available resources. We strive to offer each family a minimum of one week in camp, with the possibility of extending up to three weeks across the summer. Camper placements are determined by the availability of Inclusion Facilitators whose experience and skill set best align with each camper’s individual needs, ensuring the most supportive and successful experience possible.

What it is not

  • An entirely independent, isolated program running apart from regular camp

  • Support for English language learning needs

  • A specialized, needs based or therapy camp

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) based programming

Shape Who We Can Often Support

Following detailed discussion with families—and, where appropriate, review of supporting documentation—campers who are candidates for Appleby Provided 1-1 Inclusion Program may include those with known diagnoses or identified exceptionalities, such as:

  • Physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities

  • Campers who exhibit challenging behaviours

  • Campers who receive EA/educational assistant or additional support in their classroom

(If you’re unsure whether your camper is a fit, please contact the Camps Office to discuss.)

Availability of Support

Our Appleby Provided 1-1 Inclusion Program is offered only within our core Summer Day Camps, where dedicated facilitator support and an adaptable environment best meet the needs of Inclusion campers.

We are unable to offer Inclusion support in:

  • Before & After Care

  • Appleby Overnight

  • Enrichment Programming

  • Credit and/or ESL Programming

  • Boarding Programs

Application & Review Process

  • Apply Early: Submitting an application for camp and requesting support does not guarantee a space in camp or access to a 1:1 Inclusion Facilitator.

  • Intake & Documentation: Complete the  Information Form in full and any Inclusion intake forms. Share relevant documentation that will help us plan appropriate supports.

  • Review Timeline: All Inclusion applications are reviewed within 30 days of submission. Appleby College Camps & Academies will contact all applicants with next steps

  • Allocation of Support: 1:1 Inclusion Facilitator supports are allocated on a first come, first served basis alongside completion of intake forms, to ensure we are resourced to safely and successfully support each camper.

  • Application Review Confirmation: After your application is reviewed, you will receive a confirmation email outlining the designated weeks Appleby Camps can provide 1:1 support. Your camper’s spot and 1:1 support are not confirmed until you receive this email. Please do not arrive at camp without this confirmation.

Family Provided 1:1 Support

Families may choose to arrange and provide their own 1:1 support person to assist their camper throughout the day. This individual—often a trusted caregiver, respite worker, or educational assistant familiar with the camper—attends camp alongside them to ensure consistent, individualized support. The Family provided support person works collaboratively with camp staff and the Inclusion team to facilitate participation in all daily activities and must follow all camp schedules and direction from staff. The family provided 1:1 support must meet specific Appleby Camp requirements to ensure they are able to work safely & to standard within our camp community. This individual is responsible for the camper’s personal care, behavioural, or communication needs as outlined in the camper’s inclusion plan.

  • Please include all relevant needs or challenges in the Participant Information Form at the time of registration.

  • If you are interested the Family Provided 1-1 support option, please contact the Camp Office to further discuss all necessary requirements.
