Early Discovery Camps are designed especially for little campers ages 4-7: Arts Discovery, Camp & Sports Discovery and Nature & Science Discovery. Games, events and activities vary weekly with different themes that give campers a fresh perspective. Led by qualified instructors, the programs operate in small groups ensuring close monitoring, encouragement and attention.


Early Discovery Camps

Special Note to Parents of Campers Born in 2015: Please be aware that in order to comply with new provincial childcare legislation, any child enrolled in Appleby Camps must be at least 4 years of age at the time of their attendance at camp.

Arts Jr.

Arts Discovery Jr. (4-5 Yrs.)

This camp is for young campers to begin exploring and growing their artistic talents in an inspiring and motivating setting. Using weekly themes, Arts Discovery campers typically create artwork, explore movement and learn a dance to perform on stage. The program promotes flexibility, self-confidence, fine- and gross-motor coordination and communication skills. Recreational swimming in the pool is also included in this program. The program takes place in Appleby’s modern dance and art studios and on campus grounds, incorporating a new, fun theme weekly. Each week culminates with the campers contributing their talents to the weekly showcase on Friday afternoons in Willis Hall, where they perform in collaboration with Theatre Arts, Dance and Visual Arts Camps.

Camps & Sports Discovery Jr. (4-5 Yrs.)

Laugh, play & discover with our Camp & Sports Discovery Camp specifically designed to engage active and creative kids ages 4 - 5 years old! This all-encompassing program provides exposure to the youngest of athletes to various sport skills as well as arts and crafts, nature discovery, and cooperative games. Using many traditional, yet modified sports, such as basketball, balloon volleyball, bowling, soccer or T-ball, and a multitude of small group fun challenges, the benefits lie in increased hand-eye coordination, control of actions, and in the confidence gained along the way. Basic game understanding and respect for rules, teammates and opponents are key features and a new, fun theme weekly adds to the adventure. Recreational swimming in the pool is also included in this program. Co-operative games and a multitude of fun challenges like freeze tag, parachute ball, circle games and relay races will help young campers increase hand-eye coordination, control of actions and gain confidence.

All Discovery Camps are led by experienced teachers and qualified instructors who are passionate about working with youth ages 4-5 years! Pool time is also included under professional supervision and a nutritious lunch is served so that campers have lots of energy for fun-filled days!

Nature & Science Jr.

Nature & Science Discovery Jr. (4-5 Yrs.)

Exciting explorations, delightful discoveries, and wild wonders await Discovery campers in the Nature and Science Discovery program! From creating bubbling potions to launching rockets, to the science behind disappearing water, our professional staff members will lead dynamic science demonstrations and fun hands-on experiments! It has the right mix of creative experiments, learning science concepts, and outdoor cooperative activities. Recreational swim time in our pool, as well as hot lunches served in our dining hall are included. Summer is the perfect time to encourage campers to use their imagination and make observations while building an appreciation for the world of science and nature. Designed specifically for children ages 4 – 5 years old, this camp provides fun and challenging projects that will help to deepen your child's fascination with science as they investigate and explore its many mysteries and incorporates a new, fun theme weekly. Inspire the inner scientist in your child!

Nature and Science Discovery Weekly Topics:

Week 2: Dinosaurs

Campers will become archaeologists as they excavate their own archaeological site looking for dinosaur bones!

Week 3: The Human Body
Campers will explore and experiment with their five senses and create their own life-size human model representing many of the important systems in the human body.

Week 4: Water

This week campers will explore the water cycle and learn about different bodies of water. Campers will make water tornadoes in bottles and experiment with different objects floating and sinking in the Appleby swimming pool.

Week 5: Mechanics

Have you ever wondered how things move like a bicycle wheel spinning round and round. This week campers will experiment with different types of robotic cars and explore everyday items that move. Campers will be making their own human powerd box cars to run around Appleby’s race track in.

Week 6: Food Science

Campers will explore and experiment with food products. Children will create edible experiments, understand why food changes its form when we place it in different environments and create ooey gooey concoction to play with.

Week 7: Animals

What do animals need to survive? Campers will explore different types of habitats and find out how animals enjoy the wild.

Week 8: Imagination and Innovation

Imagination is about seeing the impossible! This week campers get to be in control of the creations they make. Campers will also get to learn about the process it takes to make their imagination become real life science! Lets head on over to the drawing board

Week 9: Sustainability

Hey Appleby campers we need your help in reducing our waste, reusing things around us and recycling all plastics!  This week campers will be learning about the importance of sustainability by exploring how things decompose in nature. Campers will also be creating their very own waste sorting box.

Discover French Early Discovery Camp is specifically designed to engage active and creative children ages 4 - 7 years old that are going into or have attended French Immersion! New this year, campers will be enhancing their French vocabulary and conversation skills while at camp! Games, crafts, swimming and interactive activities will help to keep campers engaged and educated.

Week 1: Bon Voyage

Zoom zoom! Jump aboard the Appleby Express as we take a trip around the world. Let’s go to the land down under and hop like kangaroos or take a boat out to sea and learn to swim like dolphins.  Don’t forget your Appleby passport!

Week 2: Dinosaurs

It’s a bird! No it’s a plane! No its dinosaurs! This week we will dig up dinosaur bones and learn about the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cetaceous dinosaur periods! Get your stomping feet ready because this week will be roaring with excitement.

Week 3: Super Heroes

Do you have super powers? Then this week is for you! Bring your super powers and your super costumes because it’s time to super save the world.

Week 4: Under the Sea

It’s a wet, wild and wacky week where we are going to talk to whales, play octopus, do jellyfish five, sing with Ariel and challenge you to shark & minnows! Don’t forget your bathing suit!

Week 5: Things that Move

Jumping Jelly beans! Let’s get ready to move! This week at camp is all about movement.  Campers will explore different ways to move their bodies like a wiggly worm or super slow sloth. Make sure to wear your running shoes for a week of non-stop action!

Week 6: Holidays
Join us for a week-long celebration of all your favourite holidays!! Valentine’s Day, Christmas in July and even camp-wide trick-or-treating! Don't forget your costume.

Week 7: Barnyard Palooza                                                          Old MacDonald had a farm and guess what? It’s right here at Appleby’s Discovery Camps. Come join us for some square dancing, sheep herding, and animal crafts. Get out your overalls and straw hat and we’ll meet you at the barn for some barntastic fun!

Week 8: Disney
Come one, come all, it's Disney for all! Join the Mickey Mouse clubhouse for some magical fun. With some fairy dust and a wave of a wand we will disappear into the Appleby magical kingdom.

Week 9: Dr. Seuss

“You’re off to great to places. Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting. So get on your way.” This week we will be jumping into the world of Dr. Seuss. Get ready to move around as silly characters likes Horton the Elephant and our fuzzy friend the Lorax. Join us in playing the game of  getting the cat in the hat and we cant forget about making those green eggs and ham.

Week 10: Rockstars & Moviestars 

We are the champions my friends, and we’ll keep on playing to the end! It’s the last week of camp but we are sure to keep rocking as campers dual it out in air guitar competitions and lip sync battles on our Appleby stage.  Don’t forget to join us on the slippery red carpet for some movie star water ball! This week is sure to be rock’n and rolling!
