Are there any changes to the fee schedule and provisional fee structure for the 2020-21 school year?

Please visit www.appleby.on.ca/admissions/tuitionfees for more information on tuition fees and schedules.

Provisional fee structure:

  • All boarding students (category A, B and C) will be rebated the difference between their boarding fees and the corresponding day fee for their grade band while in remote mode. As an example, if a student is a Canadian Type B boarder in Upper Two, they will receive a monthly credit for difference between their Canadian Type B boarding fee and the Upper School Day fee.
  • All day students will receive a $250 credit per month while in remote mode. This credit will also be factored into the credit for boarding students.
  • These rebates will be calculated on a monthly basis and credited to families at the end of each reporting period (three times over the year). These credits will also be prorated for students who are receiving financial assistance in the 2020-2021 school year.

What does my child need to do before going to campus?

Prior to coming to campus, all students will undergo daily screening via a phone app developed by REACH. Boarding students will complete this screening process in their Houses. If any COVID-19 symptoms are noted during the daily screening, the individual will not attend school and will follow Health Centre guidelines.

Will there be co-curricular programming this Fall?

Yes. We intend to run a full range of co-curricular and club programmes although we expect that many may be impossible or limited in the Fall or will have to be modified due to health parameters and the HyFlex model.

Will faculty and staff be required to wear masks or face coverings?

Yes. Employees will be expected to wear at a minimum a 2-ply cloth face mask at all times when indoors.

If my child or someone in our family is immunocompromised can they continue with the remote learning programme from home?

Yes. If you are a returning student please contact your School Director and Advisor. If you are a new student to Appleby please contact the Admissions office.

How will Appleby College ensure the safety and health of our community once students and faculty are back on campus?

Appleby has established and will follow a rigorous range of health and safety protocols and policies consistent with public health regulations and guidelines. Additional information on these measures can be reviewed on the other pages of this site.

What happens if my child becomes sick or has COVID-19 symptoms while at school?

Day students who are ill or are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 are asked to contact the Health Centre. The Health Centre will isolate your child to protect against possible community spread. The nurse will then contact you to arrange for you to come and pick them up. We may also ask your permission to administer a COVID-19 test, otherwise we would require you to arrange one at a public testing location.

Local boarders who are ill or are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 while in boarding are asked to contact the Health Centre. The Health Centre will follow the same procedures as listed above for Day students as we are asking local boarders to return to their home and to remain there under the care and supervision of their parents.

Distant boarders who are ill or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to contact the Health Centre who will isolate the student, administer a COVID-19 test and keep the student in isolation until the test results are returned 48 hours later.

How has Appleby determined that it is safe for my child to be on campus?

We appreciate that there are different perspectives within our community regarding safety and risk associated with COVID-19. In preparing for a return to school we have developed a comprehensive plan in consultation with infectious disease and public health officials and in accordance with the protocols outlined by the government as well as by the CIS Ontario guidelines for re-opening independent schools for the 2020-2021 school year.

Will the Health Centre be available to my child when returning to campus?

Yes. A new day Health Centre has been built in the area next to the Old Gym where Athletic Therapy was previously located.

Will students be required to wear masks or face coverings?

Students will be expected to wear at a minimum a 2-ply cloth face mask at all times while indoors and will be encouraged to do so while outdoors as well.

What impact will the modified academic schedule have on my child's progression?

Will food services be offered?

Yes. We are moving to a two lunch period model using multiple sites – the Dining Hall, the Old Gym and the Arena. We are partnering with Sodexo to work through a variety of ideas and options which include pre-ordering, ‘grab-and-go pieces’, cleaning protocols, delivery to other spaces and use of outdoor eating sites.

What is my child permitted to bring to campus?
