Though all of my time at Appleby was special, nothing is as treasured as my time on Rabbit Nose Island! I have reflected upon my time at the Northern Campus often over the past decade and each time I am filled with fond memories of canoe trips, Quinzhees, camp fires, and adventure. It is hard to summarize my learnings from Temagami in one short paragraph as each time I went up I learnt something new. In grade 9, I learnt what GORP was and what it means to trust those around you. In grade 10, I learnt that there is no such thing as bad weather… only bad clothing (winter camping was by far my favorite!) . In grade 11, I learnt what it means to lead others through new and unfamiliar challenges. Finally, in grade 12 I learnt gratitude. Gratitude for the island and its nature, gratitude for my peers and teachers, and gratitude for the experience that was Temagami.
I would encourage current and future Applleby students to embrace and enjoy every moment spent at the Northern Campus! I would also encourage students to continue on in grade 11 & 12 as Junior and Senior Outdoor Instructors to further strengthen your learnings and set you up for success in your future!
