As Reporting Period 1 comes to an end, we want to reflect on the engagement and accomplishments so far this school year. Across academics, athletics, service, and the arts, Appleby students have demonstrated incredible enthusiasm and commitment. In September, a group of students made their mark on the global stage at the Round Square International Conference in Dubai, U.A.E.; they engaged with peers from around the world in meaningful dialogue and service. Closer to home, Appleby's United Way Plane Pull teams showcased incredible teamwork and school spirit, contributing to a great cause and setting a positive tone for the term ahead. October was filled with connection and Appleby pride. Our Open Houses on October 1, 18, and 25 welcomed prospective families to campus, showcasing the warmth and vibrancy of our community. Spirit Day on October 3 and Homecoming Day on October 4 brought students, parents, alumni and employees together to celebrate what makes Appleby so special. The Walkathon on October 16 further reflected our commitment to service and community building. On the athletics front, our Blue Dogs achieved remarkable success. Congratulations to the U14 Girls’ Field Hockey, Senior Girls’ D1 Field Hockey, and Senior Boys’ Flag Football teams—each earning Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA) gold in their divisions. These accomplishments are a testament to their teamwork. We’re also proud of our Varsity Tennis athletes who will be competing at the OFSAA championship from Monday, November 10 to Wednesday, November 12. In arts and innovation, November has already showcased student creativity and talent. The Senior School Cabaret on November 4 was an evening of outstanding performances, and our VEX Robotics teams demonstrated innovation and problem-solving in action that same day during Appleby's inaugural VEX Robotics Competition. As we move into the next reporting period, we take pride in these and the many other accomplishments achieved so far and look forward to what the new term will bring! Sincerely,
Innes van Nostrand Fraser Grant '87 |

Appleby College Expectations – Artificial Intelligence Tools and Student Use
At Appleby College, we will treat AI tools as we would any other technology tool such as a calculator, smartphone or translator. If a faculty member allows the use of AI for a certain assignment, then students may use it if they are acting in accordance with the terms and agreements of the tool. If the assignment guidelines do not explicitly include the use of AI tools, then the use of them will constitute an academic integrity issue.
The consequences for misuse of AI may differ depending on the grade, academic department and assignment type, and therefore, students are asked to pay close attention to assignment outlines and permitted technology tools for all academic work. Students failing to adhere to these standards on examinations will receive a zero (0) on the assessment and a behavioral consequence that is up to and includes expulsion. Those guilty of academic dishonesty on term work or tests are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion and in alignment with the appropriate grade band consequences of academic dishonesty. These details can be found in the Appleby College Code of Conduct on pages 9-12.

We encourage parents to sign-up for the meetings as they are an excellent way to learn about your child's progress, where they are doing well, and where there might be opportunity for improvement. Although marks will be reported, the focus of both our fall report cards and Parent-Teacher Conferences are on learning skills and progress in courses so far. Again this year, Appleby is using a scheduling system called PickaTime for Parent-Teacher Conference sign-up. To access the scheduler, please login to BBK12 with your Blackbaud ID. Click here to access BBK12. Parent-Teacher interview bookings will close on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
After logging into BBK12, navigate to the Resource Board and click on the Parent-Teacher Conference Sign-up resource tile. You will then be automatically logged into the scheduling system and be able to start making your appointment selections. Once you have completed your selections, you will receive an e-mail confirmation including a summary of bookings and Zoom meeting links. To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to meet with their child's teachers, Parent-Teacher Conferences will be scheduled in seven minute slots.
Your child’s initial Fall report card, which includes teacher feedback on learning skills and course progress so far, was distributed on November 6, please click here to view the communication that was sent to parents. You are encouraged to read your child’s initial report and in particular the teacher comments prior to your Parent-Teacher Conferences. In the event you cannot attend the online Parent-Teacher Conferences, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teachers by e-mail with any questions after you have read through your child’s report card.
