Feedback on Learning: Report Cards and Parent-Teacher Conferences |
![]() |
|
Appleby College will host online Parent-Teacher Conferences via Zoom on Tuesday, November 17, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. EST, and Friday, November 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. EST. We encourage parents to sign up for the meetings as they are an excellent way to learn about your child's progress, where they are doing well, and where there might be opportunities for improvement. Although marks will be reported, the focus of both our fall report cards and Parent-Teacher Conferences is on learning skills, participation, and progress in courses so far. Again this year, Appleby is using a scheduling system called PickaTime for Parent-Teacher Conference sign-up. The system will open on Monday, November 2 at 6:00 a.m. EST and remain available until Thursday, November 12 at 11:59 p.m. EST. To access the scheduler, please log in to BBK12 with your Blackbaud ID. From the Resource Board, click on the Parent-Teacher Conference Sign-up resource tile. You will be automatically directed to the scheduling system, where you can select your appointments. Once your selections are complete, you will receive an email confirmation with a summary of your bookings and Zoom meeting links. Your child’s initial fall report card, which will include teacher feedback on learning skills and course progress, will be available for review on Thursday, November 5. You are encouraged to review your child’s initial report card, particularly the teacher comments, before attending Parent-Teacher Conferences. To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to meet with their child's teachers, Parent-Teacher Conferences will be scheduled in seven-minute slots. If you are unable to attend the online conferences, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teachers by email with any questions after reviewing your child’s report card. Due to Parent-Teacher Conferences, Friday, November 20 will be an asynchronous learning day for all Appleby students. Buses will not be running, and students will complete their work from home (no Zoom sessions). Students are asked to check their Course Plans for asynchronous work instructions from their teachers. We look forward to sharing feedback on your child’s learning skills and progress so far this year in areas of academics, co-curricular involvement, and the advisor program. Sincerely,

Attendance and Participation Update
Earlier this week, details regarding how attendance and participation will now contribute to students’ final marks in all credited high school courses as part of the Ontario Ministry of Education’s new assessment and evaluation requirements for the 2026–27 school year were shared with students. Under these requirements, attendance and participation will account for 15% of the final mark in grade 9 and 10 courses and 10% in grade 11 and 12 courses. The Ministry has provided schools with flexibility in determining how these percentages are allocated. At Appleby, 3% will be applied to attendance and the remainder to participation. For Middle School students, these requirements apply only to the three credited Middle Two courses: Technology and the Skilled Trades (TAS1O), Grade 9 Mathematics (MTH1W), and Grade 9 French (FSF1D). Over the coming weeks, teachers will provide subject-specific rubrics to students outlining how participation will be assessed. Feedback will also be included in report card comments, with the participation mark applied to the final course mark at the end of the school year, as directed by the Ministry. As to attendance, Appleby will continue to designate absences as it has previously. The process for seeking approval for absences can be found on page 18 of the Code of Conduct.
Advanced Placement at Appleby: Zoom Information Session

Please email jpeever@appleby.on.ca to RSVP and include your child’s name when responding. Call-in details will be sent to those who RSVP.
Making Caring Common - Relationship Mapping at Appleby
Appleby College has partnered with Making Caring Common (MCC) at Harvard Graduate School of Education to implement a Relationship Mapping process again this year. Relationship Mapping will help ensure that all students have a positive and trusting relationship with at least one adult at Appleby. We will be using this research-based approach to improve student belonging and relationships in an effort to support their mental health.
Your child will be asked to take a brief survey during their Advisor meeting on Friday, November 6, 2026, and again at the end of the school year, that will ask them for their name and how many positive and trusting relationships they have with school adults, peers, and friends. This data will be shared with our faculty so that we know exactly who to support throughout the school year to build and strengthen relationships. Click here if you’d like to review the survey questions. We hope you are as excited as we are about this initiative!

Activities will include supporting Empty Bowls, assembling kits for United Way Golden Horseshoe, preparing food kits and animal toys for the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton, as well as making sandwiches for community members, helping with campus clean-up and sustainability projects, and supporting other local community initiatives.

For individuals with severe nut allergies, even small amounts of exposure can pose a serious risk. To help maintain a nut-aware environment, students, parents, and employees are asked that all snacks brought from home be nut-free. Please carefully check ingredient labels when preparing snacks to ensure they do not contain peanuts, tree nuts or nut oils. Thank you for your care and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.
Students Born in 2009 to 2014 and 2016 to 2019 - Update Student Immunization Records
This school year, Halton Region Public Health is enforcing Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) for students born in 2009 to 2014, and 2016 to 2019, who are missing immunization records with Public Health. Please click here to view a letter to parents. The ISPA requires that all students attending school be fully immunized against the designated diseases listed below:
-Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Polio
-Measles, Mumps, Rubella
-Meningococcal Disease
-Varicella (chickenpox) (required for children born in 2010 or later)
Parents/guardians must report all vaccines their children receive to Public Health. Vaccines required for school attendance are free, safe, effective, and align with Ontario’s Publicly Funded Immunization Schedule.
Parents/guardians will be notified by mail if their child’s record is missing information, starting in October 2026. If your child is unable to be immunized for medical reasons, or if you choose not to immunize your child, you must submit a vaccine exemption to Halton Region Public Health. For more details about this process, please visit halton.ca/immunize. Students may be suspended from school in early 2027 if their immunization records remain incomplete.
