Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Appleby College! In preparation for the 2023-2024 school year, we are excited to share with you the rollout plan we will be following for new students to recieve their Microsoft Surface Pro 9 tablet (in platinum).  Please note, for those families who also have a returning Appleby student, details regarding tablet pick up will be sent directly to students via their Appleby e-mail account. 

The Surface Pro 9 tablet was selected for its ability to meet the learning needs of Appleby students. In addition to its compatibility with Appleby’s academic computing environment the tablet’s sleek design provides a comfortable ‘writing’ experience and at 13” is ultra-portable for students as they move through their day while engaging with their tablet. The Surface Pro 9 also offers a detachable keyboard and a re-chargeable Stylus that is docked on the keyboard. Students will also enjoy its processor speed as well as camera, video and audio features. 

TABLET ROLLOUT PROCESS FOR NEW STUDENTS

New Middle One to Senior Two Students Living in Oakville and the Greater Toronto Area

For all new day and boarding students who live in Oakville and the Greater Toronto Area, rollout sessions will be held each weekday from Monday, August 21, 2023 to Tuesday, August 29, 2023 with the first session each day running from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and the second session running from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. As noted, each session will be one hour in length and please note that students will need to attend only one of the sessions.

New Middle One to Senior One Day Students Living Outside Oakville and the Greater Toronto Area

If you are a new Middle One to Senior One Day student who is currently living outside of Oakville and the Greater Toronto Area and unable to book an appointment on any of the dates/times noted above, please contact Elaine Duggan, director, IT services at eduggan@appleby.on.ca.  

New International or Long-Distance Upper One to Senior Two Boarders

International or long-distance boarders will receive their tablets during the New Boarder Orientation programme which runs from Tuesday, September 5 to Friday, September 8, 2023. Details will be sent prior to the student's arrival on campus. Should a student wish to attend a rollout session in August, you are welcome to sign up for one of the dates and times outlined above.

 BACKPACKS AND BAGS

As part of Appleby’s tablet policy, all students are required to carry their tablets in a proper computer bag. The bag manufacturer may be of your choosing; however, it must have a properly padded and designated computer compartment. All equipment should always be stored separately from the tablet. Please arrange to have your bag with you when attending your tablet session.
