
Senior School Student Leadership Conference Opportunity - Deadline is Today
We invite all enthusiastic Senior School students with a passion for leadership to join us at the CAIS Senior Student Leadership Conference in Sherbrooke, Quebec, from Wednesday, April 17 to Saturday, April 20, 2024. This is a unique opportunity to enhance your leadership skills, connect with like-minded peers, and make a lasting impact. If you are interested, please fill out the application form sent to Senior School students on Wednesday, November 15 by Mrs. Angelow. The application deadline is today, Monday, November 20 at 4:00 p.m. Please note that there is a cost to students associated with travel and accommodations. Four spots are available, and your participation is crucial to making this event a success. Report Cards Available
Reporting Period 1 (RP1) report cards are available for review on Appleby College's education management system (BBK12). Parents are encouraged to read their child’s initial report and in particular the teacher comments prior to this Parent-Teacher Conferences. Parent-Teacher Conferences Take Place This Week
On Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. EST and Friday, November 24, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. EST Appleby will be hosting online Parent-Teacher Conferences via Zoom. When using the scheduling system PickaTime, parents should have received an e-mail confirmation which includes a summary of confirmed bookings and Zoom meeting links. If you signed up and did not receive your e-mail confirmation after booking, please e-mail Appleby's IT team at support@appleby.on.ca.
Bus Schedule
For Parent-Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 there will be one bus departure at 4:00 p.m. On Friday, November 24, 2023 all students are asynchronous so there will be no bussing. If you have any questions, please contact Andrew Labow, transportation coordinator.
Friday, November 24 – Asynchronous Day for Appleby Students
Due to Parent-Teacher Conferences, Friday, November 24, 2023 will be an asynchronous day for all Appleby students. Busses will not be running, and students will be working from home asynchronously (no Zoom sessions). Students are asked to check their Course Plans for their asynchronous work instructions from their teachers.

Holiday Shoeboxes for the Six Nations Reserve
For the fifth consecutive holiday season, Appleby will be contributing to a Holiday Shoebox donation drive for the residents of the Six Nations Reserve in Ohsweken, Ontario, led by alumnae Basant Dhillon ’21 and Nimrit Dhillon ’21. The Service Council will be organizing advisor groups and home forms, each assembling shoeboxes filled with donated items. Senior School will be collecting items for adult men; Upper School will be collecting for adult females; and Middle School will be collecting for children. The collection date is Friday, December 8, 2023. Boxes will be delivered and distributed by Basant and Nimrit over the winter break in time for holiday celebrations. With Appleby being the drive's largest contributor, these donations have a significant impact on the Six Nations Reserve community.

Middle Two Interpretive Reading Competition - Parent Judges Needed
The English Department is excited to announce the annual Middle Two Interpretive Reading Competition. We are in need of parent judges to help with the semi-finals and finals on Thursday, December 14, Friday, December 15, and Monday, December 18 from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. If you are new to judging interpretive reading, not to worry, information along with refreshments will be provided before the event in the Employee Lounge. If you are available to volunteer, please e-mail Diana Dodd, English teacher.
2024-2025 Financial Assistance Applications
Current families who are not receiving financial assistance and are interested in applying for financial assistance for the 2024-2025 school year are requested to apply by Friday, December 15, 2023. Please visit the Admissions page on Appleby's website for financial assistance information and the online application form.
Middle Two Presentations of Learning
The Middle Two Presentations of Learning (POL) are a culminating event celebrating academic and affective growth as students finish Middle School. These individual presentations highlight meaningful learning experiences that students had and their reflections on these important moments.
On Monday, November 6, the POL process was introduced to Middle School students in Grade Band. In the third reporting period, Middle Two students will create and share their POLs with peers, teachers and evaluating panelists. Students will participate in a series of workshops and work periods in preparation for this presentation in the spring. In preparation for the Presentation of Learning task, all Middle Two students are encouraged to create a folder in OneDrive, titled “POL Artifacts”, in which they can save photos from the Middle School Community Day of Action, experiential trips, co-curriculars, and other highlights from the academic year.
We look forward to fantastic demonstrations of self-assessment, reflections on personal growth, and celebration of achievements at the end of the school year!

Senior Two Students Attend BOLD Conference at Harvard
Over the November Long Weekend, 14 Senior Two students and two faculty members attended the Business Oriented Leadership Development (BOLD) Conference, organized by Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business. Students took part in sightseeing in Boston and Cambridge. They toured the Boston Public Library, one of the oldest libraries in the United States, and enjoyed diverse culinary offerings in Quincy Market. At the conference, attendees gained insights from successful women in business. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and partake in meaningful discussions with business leaders, current Harvard undergraduate students, and aspiring leaders from all over the globe. Keynotes at the Conference included the CEO of Charlotte Tilbury, Deloitte’s Board Chair, the CEO of Tatcha, and the CEO of Slack. The two-day conference concluded with a campus tour led by Harvard undergraduate students.

Chamber Orchestra from Conservatorio de Musica de Celaya Visits Appleby
On Thursday, November 9 a chamber orchestra from one of the leading music conservatories in Mexico came to Appleby for a concert for Middle Two music students, Middle One Drama students, and the Appleby Orchestra. The audience enjoyed a delightful program of both classical and traditional music. After the concert, members from both the chamber and Appleby orchestras combined forces for a masterclass, ending with a gift exchange from a member of Appleby’s Hispanic affinity group.

OFSAA Cross-Country
On Saturday, November 4, Upper One students Fadi Jaber and Athena Collins represented Appleby at the OFSAA Provincial Cross-Country Championships. They both had strong races and finished the season with personal best times. The future of Appleby Cross-Country is bright. Way to go, Fadi and Athena!

Culinary Creations Class hosted by Chef Heather McKee of Sodexo and the ACPA
Do you want to meet and have fun with other parents/guardians while getting an opportunity to build on your culinary skills? Join Kathleen Kirkpatrick, director, parent relations, Elena Dannikova, ACPA President, members of the ACPA, and Heather McKee, Sodexo Chef, for a fun evening on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. in the Dining Hall. The theme is 'Soups of the World', where we will look at different cultures through the lens of various soup dishes that will keep us warm on cold winter nights. It will be a great time to meet, catch-up, form new connections, share stories, laugh, and enjoy delicious charcuterie boards, beverages, and soup. Please note that space is limited to 15 attendees and the cost per participant is $20. Appleby College Parents' Association Meeting - Tuesday, December 5
The Appleby College Parents' Association (ACPA) was established in 1928. All Appleby parents are members of the association, which provides an opportunity to volunteer and help fundraise for the school. The ACPA is an integral part of the Appleby community and hosts a number of events over the year. ACPA Tree Trimming
Thank you to everyone who has signed up to participate in the ACPA's annual Tree Trimming event - we are so grateful to all of our volunteers who are helping make the school look so beautiful. We look forward to the Chapel decorating taking place next week. Thank you to those volunteers participating in this special event. We are still looking for volunteers to help take down the decor on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. If you are interested in volunteering, please click here to sign up. Turnover Shop Fun Friday Sale Happening This Week!
From Monday, November 20 to Thursday, November 23, 2023, all turnover hoodies, sweatshirts and sweatpants will be $10 each as part of a Fun Friday sale. Get one before they are gone! The Turnover Shop is located in the A.W.B. Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life, next to the College Shop, and sells a range of gently used, clean, Appleby approved school and gym wear. A great selection of blazers, kilts, dress shirts and approved gym and spirit wear are available. The Turnover Shop is open during regular College Shop hours, Monday to Friday from 11:20 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. Please consider donating any used in good condition Appleby gym wear and uniform items.
