Global Leadership Diploma students Will Bigler, Madeleine Champonnois, Lucie Huang, Ella Zhang and Allison Xie will showcase their Global Action Plan panel presentations. Fostering Healthy Dialogues
A group of Appleby employees were recently introduced to a new way of coming together to talk about difficult topics using a practice called Reflective-Structured Dialogue (RSD). This practice included pre-meetings with a facilitator where three carefully crafted questions were introduced, discussed one-on-one, and approved by participants. The participants then came together and, after agreeing on a set of communication agreements, they shared their prepared answers. By providing time to reflect on what they planned to say, participants were able to articulate their experience dealing with the topic of global conflicts. Afterwards, a question/discussion period allowed them to learn more about their colleagues’ answers. Although participants had differing experiences, they were able to listen, reflect, and consider the experiences of others, creating not only better understanding but a bonding experience as well. We are fortunate that Appleby has nine employees trained in facilitating Reflective-Structured Dialogue. Future dialogues will run in the spring as we work towards building a community that is accepting of differing points of view and a greater sense of belonging.
