Before transitioning earlier this spring into my current role as the director, alumni relations, I had the privilege of being the director, athletics here at Appleby College for nine years. Prior to arriving at Appleby, I had no idea or appreciation for the amazing community I would be joining. It didn’t take me long however to discover what an incredibly special place Appleby is. Along the way I learnt that Appleby is so much more than its history, its beautiful campus and its incredible breadth and depth of programming, I learnt that the true strength of Blue Dog nation is its people! Since coming to Appleby, I have had the privilege to work with an outstanding and diverse group of alumni, students, parents, faculty and staff. They say that the strength of any organization or team is its people, and this holds doubly true for the Double Blue! When I reflect on my career and all the teams that I have been a part of, I recognize that my greatest success and most enjoyable experiences came when I was surrounded by amazing people. There is no greater representation of the strength of our community than our Homecoming Weekend. Alumni, students, parents, faculty and staff, all come together during Homecoming to celebrate, reconnect, reminisce, and revist, to share stories of the past, and to reignite that feeling of belonging and Blue Dog pride that is in each and every one of us. Some alumni are frequent visitors to campus, while others visits are less frequent, but regardless of how often you are on campus, once you step through the gates the memories, friendships and that true sense of pride shines through. The most incredible time of the year to be on campus is in the fall, so I encourage you all to mark September 28, 29 and 30, 2023 on your calendars to attend this year’s Homecoming celebrations. Included in this edition of Alumni Ties is a complete list of events and activities taking place, so please take a few minutes to review the schedule and I look forward to seeing you there!
