A Canada-Themed Winter Community Weekend |

We're looking forward to our Canada-Themed Winter Community Weekend taking place Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8, 2025. On Friday, students can look forward to a Winter Whiteout Dress Down Day to celebrate winter in Canada (with all proceeds going to the United Way), attending Senior Girls' and Senior Boys' hockey games as part of the Athletic Council's Rink Rumble, Faculty's Got Talent, Appleby's Got Talent, and a variety of optional activities. On Saturday, students are invited to enjoy a Canadiana Cup Volleyball Tournament, butter tart bakeoff, karaoke, Super Bowl-themed games, and more! For times and locations of each activity, please click here to view the schedule. Please note that on Friday, February 7, day students participating in the evening's events must be picked up no later than 9:00 p.m. from the A.W.B. Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life front doors. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to attend the Senior Girls' hockey game (12:00 p.m.) and Senior Boys' hockey game (4:00 p.m.) as well as all evening activities on Friday, February 7. We also look forward to honouring the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities throughout February as we celebrate Black History Month. This year, we will be highlighting Oakville’s local history through a series of Black History Month posters from our partners at the Oakville Museum and the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton. We invite all members of our community to visit the exhibit throughout February which will be displayed in the Mark Samuel ’82 and Kevin Sanford Campus Room in the A.W.B. Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life. Finally, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, we will be hosting an African/Caribbean Cultural Lunch for students and staff. Weather Related School Closure Procedure
In the event of a weather related school closure, parents, students and employees will be notified via e-mail by 6:30 a.m. We will confirm whether in-person classes or busses are cancelled by that time. Information can also be obtained by calling the school's automated information update line at 905-845-4681 ext. 540. If in-person classes and bus transportation are cancelled, details regarding classes and work expectations for the day will be shared by teachers through Teams and e-mail communication. If there is no school closure e-mail, then regular classes will take place.
Registration Reminder - Online Forms Due Tuesday, February 18, 2025
Registration is open! Details on how to complete the online Appleby College 2025-2026 registration form were e-mailed to parents of returning and new students on Thursday, January 30. If you did not receive your online registration details, please contact the Admissions office at 905-845-4681 ext. 188 or admissions@appleby.on.ca. The deadline for new and returning students to submit the online registration form is Tuesday, February 18, 2025. If you have any questions regarding the registration process, please contact the Admissions Office and a member of the team will be more than happy to assist you.
Construction at South End of Outer Ring Road
When visiting campus please look out for and adhere to all construction and traffic signage displayed as work continues this week within the construction fencing located in front of Walker House and Baillie House. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we complete this essential work for the construction of Cockwell Hall.
Black History Month
At Appleby College we look forward to celebrating and honouring the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities throughout Black History Month. This year’s Government of Canada theme is Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations. Course Requests for Returning Students Close Wednesday, February 5, 2025
Students are learning about their course options for next year in their guidance classes. Course requests are open in BBK12 for Middle Two to Senior One students and will close on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Course offerings are visible in BBK12 for both parents and students and descriptions can be found on our website. There will be an opportunity to request a course change in the early spring. Information on course selection for NEW students will be shared with our new students and families directly in March.

Upper School & Senior One Parent/Guardian Post-Secondary Information Evening
Please join Appleby's Guidance department for the Upper School and Senior One Parent/Guardian Post-Secondary Information Evening on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. in the A.W.B. Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life. We will provide a general overview of the post-secondary education systems and application processes in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and direct entry medicine in the UK and Ireland. Attendees will learn about the timeline and supports offered by Appleby’s guidance department as students prepare and ultimately apply for post-secondary education. The evening will begin with a presentation by your child’s guidance counsellor in the following locations: Michelle Frigo - single gym; Deirdre Quinn - classroom AWB 103; Chad Malone - classroom AWB 104; Michelle Patterson - classroom AWB 109; Jonathon Peever - AWB Boardroom 101. Senior One Boarding Opportunity
Upper Two Day students who have attended Appleby as a Day student since Middle One, Middle Two or Upper One have the opportunity to apply to move into boarding starting in their Senior One year at the Boarder Type C fee. Student Global Exchanges for 2025-2026 - Applications Open!
Students entering Upper One, Upper Two and Senior One in September 2025 who are interested in a reciprocal exchange at one of Appleby's partner schools next year can apply for the annual Student Global Exchange Program through the Global Education department. Consider the rich experiences that come with immersing yourself for 4-6 weeks in another country while attending a partner school. To learn more, visit the BBK12 Exchanges and Conferences page. Middle Two POL's
The Middle Two Presentation of Learning (POL) is a culminating event celebrating academic and affective growth as students finish Middle School. POL preparation will occur for Middle Two students during English and Social Science class time, starting on Monday, May 5, 2025, following the Grade 8 Experiential Trip to Ottawa. Appleby's United Way Week took place from January 27 to 31 and various student councils put together activities for the school community. There were fun favourites such as Colleyoke, Gratitude Grams, Paint the Prefects and Dress in Red for United Way, as well as new additions to the schedule including a slime bar and Willy Wonka chocolate bar sales. An Appleby Middle School robotics team, The SpongeDOGS, recently competed at the provincials, putting in countless extra hours of effort. They achieved their highest-ever robot mission score and impressed judges with an innovative project: a rover to restore glacier ice and combat global warming. While they didn’t bring home hardware, their dedication and accomplishments demonstrate these young innovators are ready to change the world! |

On Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., all Appleby parents are invited to attend the ACPA Open House Informational Breakfast at McLean House (Principal’s Residence). The Appleby College Parents' Association (ACPA) enjoys a long-standing relationship with Appleby. The ACPA mandate is to support the administration, faculty, students, and parents/guardians of current students and alumni.
The ACPA Executive provides leadership to Appleby parent volunteers and each year new parents become part of the Appleby volunteer family. Whatever your talents or interests might be, there is a volunteer opportunity you will enjoy! 2025 Grad Rings
Celebrate your 2025 graduate with a locally crafted Appleby College graduation ring. Grad rings are a time-honoured tradition that will help celebrate students' achievements throughout their years at Appleby. We have a wonderful manufacturer, Foschia & Co. and the rings have been designed with a nod to tradition and a modern twist! The rings can be ordered in sterling silver, 10K yellow or white gold, and can be customized to any graduation year. Grad rings are available to order via the online College Shop and you can preview the rings and have your fingers sized at the College Shop. ACPA Book Return and Sale
Donating and purchasing books through the school is a great way to support the ACPA. If you have books to donate, please put them in the box labelled "Book Donations" outside the College Shop. We sell books throughout the school year so donations are always welcome. If you are looking for a book, please check book availability here. The ACPA book exchange is a great way to buy school books at reasonable prices! If you have any questions about the book sales, returns and donations, please contact ACPA book return representatives Bal Chahal, Yan Peng and Emma Zhang.
Sustainability Shop - Request for Gently Used School Wear
Have your kids outgrown their school uniform items? It's time to go through your closets and donate any gently used Appleby approved school wear. The Sustainability Shop (formerly the Turnover Shop) is accepting all uniform and approved gym and spirit wear. Please drop-off donations at Nicholas Arts Centre front reception or during regular College Shop hours, Monday to Friday from 11:20 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. We welcome donations throughout the school year.
