Hadestown - Teen Edition - Don't Miss It! |
![]() |
|
It was wonderful to see students, parents, faculty and staff take part in the Olympic-themed Winter Community Weekend which took place Friday and Saturday. Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in what has become one of our favourite school traditions. And speaking of favourite traditions, we are incredibly excited about this year’s All-School Play, Hadestown - Teen Edition. The performances will take place at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, February 26 at 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The character Hermes narrates two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and Lady Persephone. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, this sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Tickets are $35 each and available through the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts online box office. Limited seats are still available for both dates. Be sure to get your tickets as soon as possible as they are selling out fast! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank those parents who have already completed the registration process for the 2026-2027 school year. If you haven’t had an opportunity yet, please remember that the deadline for new and returning students to submit their online registration form is Tuesday, February 17. If you have questions regarding the process, please contact the Admissions department at admissions@appleby.on.ca and a member of the team will be more than happy to assist you. I look forward to seeing you at the theatre! Sincerely, Dr. Claire Kelly |

Suspension Risk: Students Born in 2008-2013 Missing Immunization Records
This school year, Halton Region Public Health is enforcing Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) for students born between 2008 and 2013 (students in Middle One through Senior Two) who have missing immunization records on file with Public Health. Students with missing immunization records may be suspended as of March 2026.
Thank you to all parents/guardians and students who have already submitted the required information. Students in this age group whose immunization records are not up to date remain at risk of school suspension until the necessary information is provided to Halton Region Public Health. If you received a letter from Halton Region Public Health indicating that your child is at risk of school suspension, it is due to one or more of the following reasons:
-
Immunizations were received but not reported to Public Health;
-
The student is missing a required vaccine; or
-
Received vaccines do not meet the requirements of Ontario's routine immunization schedule.
Parents/guardians and students who received a letter from Halton Public Health should complete the following actions as soon as possible:
-
Visit halton.ca/immunize to review the student’s record and submit the required information. Students 16 years of age or older should follow the specific access instructions provided on the website.
-
If the student requires immunization, arrange for them to receive the vaccine doses through their regular health care provider*, or at a Public Health Community Immunization Clinic. A limited number of Public Health clinic appointments are now available - visit halton.ca/immunize to check clinic availability and book an appointment.
*Parents/guardians must promptly report all vaccines administered by health care providers to Public Health by visiting halton.ca/immunize.
Service Commitments
Service Learning is an essential part of life at Appleby, and it encourages students to take meaningful action, develop leadership skills, and reflect on the positive impact they create within their communities. As a reminder, Appleby students are required to complete 10 service hours per year in Middle School and 20 service hours per year in Upper and Senior School. These experiences count toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), the Appleby College Diploma, and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
To earn the OSSD students are required to have at least 40 hours of community involvement activities (volunteering). New for 2025-2026, the Ontario Ministry of Education is introducing a Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement for graduating students beginning with the Class of 2026. Students who complete 50 to 99 hours will receive a Bronze certificate, those who complete 100 to 199 hours will receive Silver, and those who complete 200+ hours will receive Gold.
We are excited to see students continue to inspire, serve, and make a lasting difference. Students must complete their required Appleby service hours by Tuesday, May 19, 2026 and are encouraged to work toward this new provincial graduation recognition. Volunteer opportunities can be found on Teams, BBK12, and in e-mails from our Service Council.

Team Parents Needed for all Sports!
The ACPA is excited to partner with Appleby's Athletics department to enhance parent engagement for our Blue Dog sports teams. We are currently seeking one parent per team to be the official representative and liaison between all the team parents, the coach and the ACPA School Spirit Committee. The positive impact we experienced last year was incredible, and we aim to maintain that momentum as we continue through the winter sports season.
This is a fun, easy, and rewarding opportunity for parents to support their athletes and the school community. If you’re interested in supporting your athlete's season as a Team Parent or have any questions, please email any of the following ACPA representatives for more information: Dave Olujic, Ilyas Borjakov, or Susan Shao. We would love to see as many parents get involved as possible. Go Blue Dogs!!
