Traffic Congestion on Lakeshore Road
During the morning school drop-off, there is typically a 15-20 minute backup of traffic along Lakeshore Road, especially for individuals attempting to make a left-hand turn from the westbound lanes onto campus. Many of us face the challenges of traffic congestion in the morning, so we kindly ask that for those individuals making a right-hand turn from the eastbound lane of Lakeshore Road, when possible, please allow a car in the westbound lane to turn left to enter campus ahead of you to alleviate some of the backup and keep the traffic flowing. Also, if you are in the westbound turning lane of Lakeshore and the crossing light is red, after checking for pedestrians crossing in front of the school entrance, please continue to turn left onto campus. These lights were installed for the safety of pedestrian traffic crossing Lakeshore to the west of the school’s entrance road. With more students walking to school and accessing the campus via Suffolk the crossing lights are being used more frequently causing a further backup in the westbound lanes of Lakeshore. Thank you for your support!
Please Lock Items on Campus
A reminder to students, faculty and staff to lock your personal belongings (bikes, etc.) purposefully, and alert Appleby's security team if you notice any suspicious activity on campus so we may be vigilant at particular times and/or areas and investigate appropriately.

2023-2024 Appleby College Walkathon - Thursday, October 19
Walkathon, an Appleby tradition, educates and enables our students to become leaders of character, major contributors to, and valued representatives of their local, national and international communities. Since 1969 when Appleby students first walked 32.2 km and raised $2,800 for Oxfam (Oxford Famine Relief), they have been giving back to others. This year, on Thursday, October, 19, 2023, students will run/walk just under 20 km across Oakville raising funds for organizations including United Way Halton & Hamilton, Oakville Community Foundation, Temagami Community Foundation and an organization selected by the DEIB Council in the coming weeks.
Registration and Fundraising
All students are registered for the Walkathon. If you would like to make a pledge to support a participant, you can access their page by visiting the main Walkathon page and searching for their name.
Calling All Volunteers
Walkathon is Appleby's largest volunteer event and we need over 300 volunteers! If you've been looking for a way to help, this is your chance. This wonderful school event runs much of the day and requires everyone’s commitment to make it a success - from students, to faculty and staff, and especially volunteers. Current parents, parents of alumni, alumni and grandparents are encouraged to sign-up and help. To select a Walkathon volunteer location and time, please click here and sign-up. Below are details about signing up and volunteering at the event:
- Please pick a time slot to volunteer, but do not take 'APPLEBY STAFF SPOTS' as these are reserved for faculty and staff.
- If you would like to be with a friend you may also sign them up using their contact information (with their permission).
- Please plan to arrive early for your shift and remember that Walkathon runs rain or shine so dress accordingly.
- All shift locations have at least two helpers; if there is an asterisk for a location, an Appleby employee will be one of the crew.
- Feel free to bring a chair, but please leave pets at home.
- The end time for all shifts are approximate; a “sweeper” will be by to apprise volunteers of the status of the walkers.
- A final list will be sent the night before the event, but you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your time.
Visit the Walkathon Information site on BBK12 to learn more about the available volunteer roles and the optional training on Zoom. If you have any questions about volunteering at this year's Walkathon, please e-mail Jennifer Latimer, Walkathon committee parent volunteer coordinator, at jenlatimer6@icloud.com.
Showing Your Spirit (Rain or Shine)
As the Walkathon takes place outdoors, students are encouraged to wear comfortable footwear and to dress for the weather (pants, long sleeves, etc.). Please click here to view options available in the College Shop.
