Homecoming - Let the Celebrations Begin! |
![]() |
From Thursday, October 3 through to Saturday, October 5 the Appleby community will come together to celebrate the past, present and future at the 2024 Homecoming. Homecoming is an incredibly special event for all of us here at Appleby, particularly for our current students as it is through the various activities and events that they get the opportunity to meet our alumni and learn about Appleby's rich 113-year heritage and the important traditions and culture we are all a part of. We especially look forward to seeing students, alumni, parents, grandparents, alumni parents, employees and friends on Homecoming Day - Saturday, October 5. I encourage you all to join the festivities planned for this weekend. Event details can be found on the Homecoming website: www.appleby.on.ca/homecoming. In addition to family activities, Homecoming is a special time for alumni who will be back on campus to celebrate reunions and reconnect. From Thursday’s 50-Year Club Luncheon and Friday night’s 25-Year Reunion dinner to Saturday night's Reunion Social, coming back to campus and catching up with old friends is a special occasion for one and all. While at the various events, please help us to capture the day! Use hashtag #applebyhoco to share your Homecoming stories, pictures and videos on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and X (formerly known as Twitter). We look forward to seeing you and celebrating with the Appleby community. Sincerely, |

Helping Ease Traffic on Lakeshore Road
During morning drop-offs and single dismissal pick-ups, traffic along Lakeshore Road frequently backs up for 15 to 20 minutes, especially for drivers trying to make a left turn from the westbound lanes onto campus. To help ease congestion, we kindly ask that drivers making a right-hand turn from the eastbound lane of Lakeshore Road, when possible, allow a westbound car to turn left to enter campus ahead of you. This small gesture can help keep traffic flowing and reduce the backup.
Additionally, when the traffic light at the campus entrance is red, westbound drivers should check for pedestrians and proceed to make the left turn to enter the campus. Eastbound drivers are kindly asked to allow westbound drivers to make the turn before proceeding to help ease traffic flow. These lights are in place for the safety of pedestrians crossing Lakeshore Road just west of the school entrance. With more students walking to school and crossing at Suffolk Avenue, the crossing lights are being used more frequently, contributing to the backup in the westbound lanes.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day
On Monday, September 30 Appleby will be participating in Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Orange Shirt Day will be a half dress-down day and members of the Appleby community are encouraged to wear orange shirts in commemoration of this important day (the orange piece has to be your shirt, not socks, hats or other pieces of clothing). This important day builds awareness of the individual, familial and community intergenerational impacts of residential schools. Miigwetch (Anishinaabemowin), Niá:wen (Mohawk), Marsi (Métis, Dene), Kinanâskomitin (Cree), thank you!
