Giving Tuesday |
Since its inception in 2012, Giving Tuesday has grown into an international phenomenon, uniting people in the spirit of giving, collaboration, and kindness. Please join the Appleby College community this Giving Tuesday (Tuesday, December 3, 2024) and support the school’s strategic giving priorities. This year, we’re focusing on three key areas that can make a lasting impact on our community: Cockwell Hall, Wellbeing, and Financial Assistance. We’d also like to thank everyone who joined us on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook in support of Appleby’s Giving Tuesday social media campaign which launched on Monday, November 18. Through our campaign, we’ve highlighted how these initiatives are making a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. From inspiring stories to achievements made possible by your generosity, our posts illustrate the lasting impact of your support. We invite you to join us in celebrating Giving Tuesday by supporting Appleby’s mission to create a thriving, inclusive, and supportive environment for our students. Every gift, big or small, contributes to building a future where generosity shapes and strengthens our community. Thank you for your continued support and for being an essential part of the Appleby community. Sincerely, Jude Alexander |

Traffic Disruption on Ring Road
On Monday, December 2, and Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the south end of the outer ring road by Walker House will be closed to facilitate the installation of a new water main. During this time, traffic flow will be adjusted as follows: the East Ring Road will allow two-way traffic to provide access to the Health Centre, J.S. Gairdner Arena, and employee campus housing, while the West Ring Road will serve residents of Colley and Powell’s House for parking access. The roadway will reopen at 5:00 p.m. on both days to accommodate evening traffic and additional security will be present to manage traffic flow.
Additional measures will be in place to ensure safety and minimize disruption. The gate located by the John Bell Chapel will remain closed during morning drop-off and throughout the day to maintain a pedestrian-friendly inner road. Buses will drop-off and pick-up students at the front of the school in the lane between the Nicholas Arts Centre and the A.W.B. Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life (to accommodate the buses please do not park in this lane from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.). Health Centre parking will also be relocated back to the front of the Health Centre building during the closure. Finally, access to the south door of Schlesinger Dining Hall will be restricted to prevent student access near the construction zone; students are asked to use the west or north doors during this time.
As a reminder, when visiting campus please look out for and adhere to all construction and traffic signage displayed on campus. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we complete this essential work for the construction of Cockwell Hall.
Bus Pick-up and Drop-off
Due to roadwork taking place on campus on Monday, December 2 and Tuesday, December 3, 2024, buses will drop-off and pick-up students at the front of the school in the lane between the Nicholas Arts Centre and the A.W.B. Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life. If you have any questions, please contact Andrew Labow, transportation coordinator.
Weather Related School Closure Procedure
In the event of a weather related school closure, parents, students and employees will be notified via e-mail by 6:30 a.m. We will confirm whether in-person classes or busses are cancelled by that time. Information can also be obtained by calling the school's automated information update line at 905-845-4681 ext. 540. If in-person classes and bus transportation are cancelled, details regarding classes and work expectations for the day will be shared by teachers through Teams and e-mail communication. If there is no school closure e-mail, then regular classes will take place.

Both courses are intended to be starting points that help build awareness around AI. To access, please click on following links. There is no login required.
Micro Course 1 Parents - ‘Defining AI’ provides a brief overview of the components behind AI and Generative AI technologies.
Micro Course 2 Parents - ‘Ethics and AI’ focuses on the importance of data, and the issues of bias, misinformation, and sustainability.

Blue Dog Spirit

A Spirit Parent Captain is needed to help facilitate communication to parents and to encourage attendance at home and away games, as well as coordinate volunteers to provide snacks for athletes and coaches. You can also share this role! The impact was amazing during the fall term and we look to continue to build momentum. This is an easy, fun and rewarding opportunity for local and/or away parents to help inspire athletes and the school. Coaches will send emails requesting volunteers when team rosters are complete (mid-November), but please e-mail ACPA Executive member Jennifer Latimer for more information. Go Blue Dogs!
