BOARDING LIFE
"The boarding programme prepares students well for university life and promotes understanding, empathy and inclusion, while encouraging meaningful relationships with a diverse group of students from across the globe. The friendships, connections and memories that are made are sure to stay with the students forever.”

ANNOUNCING TWO ENHANCEMENTS TO APPLEBY’S BOARDING LIFE PROGRAMME
Appleby College’s Boarding Life programme is an integral component of the student experience as boarding promotes understanding, empathy and inclusion, while encouraging meaningful relationships with a diverse group of students from across the globe. Based on feedback and interest shared by parents, students and alumni, we are pleased to announce the following changes to the Boarding Life programme:
1. New 2022-2023 Boarding Opportunity
Upper Two Day students who have attended Appleby as a Day student since Middle One, Middle Two or Upper One will have the opportunity to apply to move into boarding starting in their Senior One year at an adjusted fee structure. Parents who are interested in learning more at this time are encouraged to contact Sophie Grossman, Executive Director of Admissions: sgrossman@appleby.on.ca.
2. Gender Inclusive Boarding
Appleby College’s Boarding Life programme is an integral component of the student experience. While encouraging meaningful relationships with a diverse group of students from across the globe, boarding also promotes understanding, empathy and inclusion. Building an inclusive community is a fundamental Appleby value and is reflected in our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan which makes a commitment to be more inclusive of our 2SLGBTQ+ community.
Based on feedback and interest shared by parents, students and alumni, we were pleased to announce the introduction of a gender inclusive boarding option for the 2021-2022 school year.
The understanding of gender identity and gender expression has developed extensively and there is a new awareness and wide understanding that gender identity is not limited to boy or girl. While the focus of our Boarding Life programme will continue to be student residences for boys and girls, we are looking to offer gender inclusive boarding to those students who identify as part of the LGBTQ2S+ community, should they express an interest in doing so.
Students who wish to participate in gender inclusive boarding will be able to express their interest by completing a pre-boarding survey which will be shared with returning boarding students and with new boarding students as part of their New Boarder Orientation Kit.
We appreciate and understand that for some members of our community, gender inclusive boarding is a new and unknown topic. Various information sessions and learning opportunities will be held for parents, students and employees who are interested in learning more about the school’s programme. These sessions will also provide our community with an opportunity to foster a deeper understanding of gender diversity as part of Appleby’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. We encourage everyone to join the sessions or please click on the button below to download a PowerPoint presentation to learn more.
