Combo Program - Kandalore + Appleby Summer!

The Camp Kandalore + Appleby College Combo Program is one of a kind! Combining 2 weeks at Camp Kandalore with 2 weeks within Appleby College’s Summer Enrichment Camp or Canadian Experience Camp, this program truly gives campers the best of both worlds- surrounded by nature for the first half, and living at one of Canada’s premier independent schools for the second half.

Camp Kandalore brings together individuals and groups from around the world to live and play in a traditional overnight camp setting, lakeside on the beautiful Lake Kabakwa in the Algonquin Highlands. After spending 2 amazing weeks of canoeing tripping and camp activities at Camp Kandalore, Combo Campers will travel to Oakville and arrive at Appleby College to finish their stay in Canada. Campers will live within our boarding houses located on 60-acres of waterfront property and participate in our enriching day programs, as well as experience local Canadian landmarks on weekly excursions.

The Combo Program runs during the month of July.

ACCOMMODATIONS AND MEALS

At Kandalore

When campers arrive, they will be shown to the cabin that they will share with campers around the same age. In the PJ and Inter sections, 8 – 10 people live within cabins together with 2 counselors, and Senior campers live in 4 person cabins with counselors adjacent. All the cabins have bunkbeds and cubbies for storage. International Campers will be provided with sleeping bags, pillow, canoe paddle and life jacket from the Camp Kandalore team upon arrival as part of their international package.

At Camp, every meal (with the exception to a handful of special meals and while on canoe trip) will be eaten with the campers’ cabin mates and counsellor(s) within the Dining Hall. Kitchen staff work to make delicious camp-style meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert each day. Allergies and dietary restrictions should be noted at the time of registration. No outside food can be brought or sent to camp to ensure all campers’ food allergies are respected, as well as to minimize any small animals entering the cabins at Kandalore.

At Appleby

Appleby Summer Program Participants reside on campus in one of our four air-conditioned student boarding houses.  Students stay in double-occupancy rooms separated by gender. Roommates are carefully selected so that each student shares a room with a student of a similar age who is from a different language group. Each boarding house offers multiple common rooms, providing a casual and comfortable social space to hang out with friends, play games such as pool or table tennis, and study. Linens and self-service laundry facilities are provided, and wi-fi is available throughout our campus.

Three nutritious buffet-style hot meals are served daily in our beautiful lake-view dining hall, centrally located on campus. All foods are prepared on-site by Appleby’s excellent year-round catering team. Fruits and snacks are provided daily. All dietary restrictions and allergies can be accommodated, with the exception of Kosher.

CANOE TRIPS AND EXCURSIONS

At Kandalore

At Kandalore, we are proud to offer an incredible canoe tripping program. Each camper will get the opportunity to go on one of our amazing trips led by our experience and knowledgeable trip staff. Within the first two days of camp, campers will find out what trip they will be on and where they will be going.

The schedule on trip is different from the schedule in camp. The trip schedule changes depending on group dynamics, weather, trip length, and age.

Daily tasks on trip can include:

  • Building a fire
  • Map reading
  • Nature hikes
  • Portaging
  • S’Mores

No matter what trip campers take part in, they experience a wonderful adventure and get to challenge themselves through learning new skills in the beautiful outdoors.

At Appleby

During campers' time at Appleby, we are excited to offer off-site excursions, providing campers with the opportunity to experience some of the regions most exciting attractions and Canadian culture.  All meals, transportation and entrance fees are included in the program price, and our staff supervise all excursions. Staff are trained in off-site safety and risk mitigation, ensuring a safe and fun experience for all participants. Some examples of our excursions include:

Kandalore is 20 minutes from the closest hospital and 30 minutes away from two major hospitals in Haliburton and Huntsville. If at any time a camper should experience any health concerns at Camp, the family / legal guardian will be contacted by the Camp office as soon as possible.

All counsellors, program and tripping staff are first aid trained and first aid kits are provided throughout Camp and on trip so that our team is equipped to swiftly respond to medical concerns.

Camper’s health is our top priority.
