How To Apply

We are delighted that you are considering enrollment at Appleby College.

To apply for admission to Appleby, please follow the steps outlined below to complete the application process. Students submitting an application by October 31, 2024 will be notified of their status by December 12, 2024. Those submitting an application by December 12, 2024, will be notified of their status by February 20, 2025. Students submitting an application after December 12, 2024 will be notified of their status on a rolling basis after February 20, 2025 as space permits.

Students completing a Boarding application (for Grades 9 to 12) will be considered on an ongoing rolling basis with decisions made throughout the year until all spaces are full. We encourage families to apply early as the majority of boarding spaces are allocated by mid-January.

The first step in the application process is to complete the online application form.

Step 1: Online Application Form

As the first step in the application process please complete the online application form by clicking on the Apply Now button below. Please note, new applicants will be asked to create an account before proceeding to the application form. If you are a returning applicant, the login method previously used when submitting your Appleby College application has changed as Blackbaud - Appleby's education management system (BBK12) provider, has phased out its existing login method. Returning applicants are asked to contact support@appleby.on.ca and a member of the Appleby Technology Team will be happy to assist you.

It should take you approximately 5-10 minutes to complete the online form. Once you have completed the form you will be asked to pay the school's non-refundable application fee. For Canadian residents the fee is $200, for International residents the fee is $300.

As part of the application process, please have the following information and documents available for submission: 

EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT (IF APPLICABLE): To help us ensure that the applicant (upon condition of acceptance) receives the appropriate support needed to have a successful experience at Appleby, a copy of their last assessment is appreciated if available.

ESL LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT (IF APPLICABLE): If the applicant is a non-native English speaker applying for grades 10 through 12 please provide your TOEFL, or IELTS test date. For non-native English speakers applying for grades 7 through 9 please provide your TOEFL Jr or iTEP test date.  Please note that, for those who are unable to access one of the above English Language Assessments, we are currently accepting Duolingo as an alternative.

Step 2: Applicant Checklist

Within two days of submitting your application form, you will receive a welcome e-mail from a member of Appleby’s admissions team. This e-mail will include instructions on how to access an applicant checklist which has been assigned to you and which will allow you to track the progress of your child's application. Included as part of the checklist are the following items:

CONFIDENTIAL SCHOOL REPORT: Please ask one of your child’s Teachers, their Principal or a Guidance Counsellor to complete and return directly to Appleby College the Confidential School Report. Once completed the form can be e-mailed to admissions@appleby.on.ca or sent via mail to 540 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, Ontario, L6K 3P1. 

PROOF OF AGE: A copy of the applicant’s passport, birth certificate or other legal document that confirms applicant’s age. 

REPORT CARDS: A copy of your child’s final report card from the 2023-2024 school year as well as a copy of their final report card from the 2022-2023 school year. If your child has received an interim report card from the current 2024-2025 school year you can also submit it.

KIRA TALENT INTERVIEW: Following submission of their application, Appleby College will send an invitation to complete an online assessment for Admissions 2024-2025. Included in the e-mail will be a set of instructions outlining the steps to take. This e-mail will be sent to the Parent 1 e-mail address provided in the Household Information section of the application form. If you are submitting an application form for more than one child, a member of Appleby’s admissions team will contact you to confirm which address the Kira Talent online assessment should be e-mailed to.

ADMISSIONS INTERVIEW: Should you be contacted for an interview with an Admissions Officer upon submission of your application, every effort should be made to arrange a personal interview. A Skype, Microsoft Teams or Zoom interview may be arranged when distance creates a great inconvenience.

SIR EDMUND WALKER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME (OPTIONAL): Appleby offers a merit-based scholarship in the form of the Sir Edmund Walker Scholarship programme, named after the school’s founding patron. Up to five new incoming students to Appleby will receive $20,000 per year starting with the recipient’s year of entry. The full scholarship amount will be applied directly against annual tuition fees. We encourage all applicants to learn more about the scholarship by clicking here.

How To Apply

All financial assistance decisions at Appleby are need based and are designed to assist families who believe in an Appleby education but are unable to meet the full financial commitments. All applications are reviewed by an independent financial services firm, Apple Financial Services (www.applefinancialservices.ca), who will provide Appleby with a confidential analysis of a family's financial ability to contribute towards their child's education. Applications for financial assistance open on Monday, October 7, 2024. Please do not submityour information to Apple Financial before this date. The financial assistance application fee is $130 (includes HST). Sir Edmund Walker Scholarship

Effective for the 2024-25 school year, Appleby College will award up to five new incoming students a $20,000 annual scholarship to be used towards their tuition fees. Named after the school’s founding patron, the scholarship recognizes new incoming students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, both inside and outside the classroom. The scholarship is open to all day, boarding and international students, regardless of their financial need. All scholarship recipients will also be eligible to apply for Appleby’s $5.8 million Financial Assistance Programme.

“With the Sir Edmund Walker Scholarship Programme, we are reinforcing our commitment to supporting exceptionally talented and motivated students who are on the path of becoming tomorrow’s leaders,” said Innes van Nostrand, Principal. “As one of Canada’s most eminent businessmen of his time, Sir Edmund Walker’s vision for Appleby College was to produce potential leaders for the nation, who aspired for more than money, and who understood the importance of the world beyond Canada. This vision lives on today.”

Students interested in applying for the 2024-25 Sir Edmund Walker Scholarship Programme must meet the following requirements:

  • Have achieved high academic standing having participated in a rigorous academic programme in their previous two years of schooling. In most cases, students should have an overall average in excess of 85% or letter grade of A- or higher.
  • Have been an elite level participant in athletics, the arts and/or community involvement and demonstrated leadership within these endeavours.
  • Have demonstrated a proven commitment to giving back to others through service leadership within their local community and/or school.
  • Have submitted a written reflective piece describing "How you have made a positive impact on your current school community".

Recipients of the Sir Edmund Walker Scholarship will receive $20,000 per year starting with the recipient’s year of entry and guaranteed to renew annually until graduation or the recipient leaves the school. The full scholarship amount will be applied directly against the recipient’s annual tuition fees.

The Sir Edmund Walker Scholarship will supersede any other financial award. This award will be included as part of any Financial Assistance Programme assessment.

Applications for the 2024-25 Sir Edmund Walker Scholarship are due on December 1, 2024.

HOW IS A FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PACKAGE DETERMINED?

It is based on a family's financial ability to contribute to their child's education as determined by the analysis conducted by Apple Financial Services.

IS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE TO MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS?

Yes, financial assistance is available for Middle School students.

IS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE TO INTERNATIONAL BOARDING STUDENTS?

Yes, financial assistance is available to international boarding students but only in the most compelling circumstances.

DO I NEED TO HAVE EXCEPTIONAL TALENTS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE?

No, Appleby College is committed to enrolling outstanding students who will make a contribution to the school regardless of whether or not a student has an exceptional talent.

IF WE RECEIVE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN OUR CHILD'S FIRST YEAR, WILL WE RECEIVE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS?

Yes, however you will need to re-apply every year and your award will be adjusted based on changes in your family's financial situation and will also take into account the additional commitment for boarding in Senior Two (Grade 12).

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE?

The financial assistance application deadlines follow the admissions deadlines. To be considered, we recommend that you submit your financial assistance application at the same time as you submit your Appleby College application.

WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Deadline FOR RETURNING STUDENTS?

The financial assistance application deadline for returning students is December 13, 2024.

WHAT IS A BURSARY?

A bursary is a grant which does not require repayment. Over 90% of Appleby’s financial assistance is provided through bursaries. The remainder are loans or scholarships.
