How To Get A Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening - Volunteers
The Policy: To ensure the safety and protection of our students and as part of our ongoing risk-management program, Appleby College requires all school volunteers to have a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (CRC-VSS) completed prior to start of volunteering at the School.
Where to go: As per Municipality regulations, you can only obtain a Police Screening Check from the Municipality in which you reside.
Requirements: To apply, you will need the following:
- Two (2) pieces of valid government-issued identification. One must include the applicant's name, date of birth and photo.
- Please contact your local Police Services Office to get the complete requirements
- As a volunteer, you are responsible for the full cost to obtain the CRC-VSS

CRC Results: The CRC result will be mailed or emailed out to the applicant. Once received, please email a copy to Denika Bertoli, Manager, Events. Appleby will ensure that CRC-VSS received remains strictly confidential. You will be contacted directly if further information is required.
Renewal & Disclosure:
For volunteers, CRCs will be renewed every 3 years from the date it was last issued.
In the years in between the determined renewal dates or while a new application is in process, the Declaration of Criminal Record must be completed during this time to acknowledge the individual’s obligation to report any criminal convictions to Appleby College.
However, if an offence or conviction occurred after the date of the most recent CRC submission, this must be reported immediately for further consideration for volunteering. Failure to do so will terminate any volunteering contracts and/or agreements entered between both parties.
Thank you for your involvement at the school and for taking the time to understand this important process.
