Progress Update: Cockwell Hall

Cockwell Hall, which broke ground in May 2025, is a project that will redefine how our students learn, connect, and grow. More than just a building, this innovative addition will enrich the Appleby experience with over 400 square metres of state-of-the-art classroom space, a 135-square metre Innovation & Technology Lab, and new adaptive learning environments designed to spark creativity and discovery. Cockwell Hall will also expand our boarding community with eight new double dorm rooms and a Don apartment, seamlessly connected to Walker House. Like the Memorial Classroom Building and the A.W.B. Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life, Cockwell Hall will be transformational—shaping the future of Appleby and ensuring our students thrive in an environment built for innovation, connection, and growth.

 Progress Update Financial Assistance

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our Appleby community, we’ve made meaningful progress towards our goal to grow the Appleby College Foundation’s endowment from $36.8MM to $50-75MM to further assist deserving students and families and offset operational cost pressures.

Thank you to our anonymous donor who has made an additional generous gift of $2,500,000 to be used as a source for matching gifts towards the creation or enhancement of named endowed funds. Since launching the matching gift opportunity in 2016 we have welcomed 58 new funds dedicated to supporting student financial assistance.

Preparing Students to Thrive in Life and Learning

At Appleby, our goal is that every student graduates with a strong sense of self, mental health literacy, and the wellbeing strategies needed to navigate the demands of a complex world. To achieve this, we are investing in enhanced academic learning support and mental health services; expanding faculty training and expertise; providing students with meaningful self-knowledge tools and assessments; offering parents education and resources on learning needs, Positive Psychology, and mental health; and extending outreach to alumni as they continue their life journeys.

With this bold vision for wellbeing in education, Appleby is shaping a future where we not only strengthen our own community, but also become a Centre of Excellence—building and sharing wellbeing knowledge and practices across the educational sector and wider society.
