Winter Academic Credit Courses

Join us this winter for our 2021 online academy! This program is specifically designed for non-Appleby students who are interested in taking online credits with us from February to May and offers an engaging online platform that includes class learning hours spent in a live virtual classroom, as well as independent work completed by the student in their own time. Students will have a synchronous virtual class one evening per week, access to weekly office hours with their teachers, and tutorial videos to follow while completing independent work. Students will be expected to attend class each week, and submit all assignments in a timely manner. Classes will take place using Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- We offer small class sizes of no more than 12 students in the online learning environment. This ensures that each student has ample one-on-one time with the teacher, to make sure their remote learning needs are met.
- Class hours vary depending on the subject and are tailored to the different subjects.
- Classes run on either Tuesdays or Thursdays from February 2 to May 27, 2021, with the final exam on Saturday, May 29, 2021.
- Students are expected to have access to a personal computer or tablet, and internet access to participate in the course.
- Withdrawal and Refund Policy: Notice of student withdrawal must be made in writing to the Summer Academy office at academy@appleby.on.ca. All refunds and course changes are subject to a $200 administrative fee. Full refunds will only be issued with proof of visa denial or a medical emergency supported by certification from a legally qualified medical practitioner not related to the student. Cancellations received 30 days prior to the start date of the program are eligible for a full refund, less the administrative fee. Cancellations received less than 30 days prior to the start date of the program will not receive a refund. The College reserves the right to cancel registration in the event of low enrollment or exceptional and/or unforeseen circumstances. If this occurs a full refund will be provided. If a student is asked not to return to the College for any reasons prior to the start of the program, all tuition fees paid will be refunded.

COVID-19 SUMMER 2021 EXCEPTIONS FOR ON CAMPUS PROGRAMMING:
Missed On-Campus Program Policies
Our fees are for a service over a specified period of time and are not a day-to-day fee. Missing class for any reason (without a valid Doctor’s note) will not be subject to any refunds or pro-rating of fees.
- Exception 1: If Extended Absence Insurance is purchased at the time of enrollment ($15/student/week), and the student becomes ill or injured during the course of their enrolment, and is therefore required to miss two (2) consecutive days of their regularly scheduled enrollment, the remaining unattended classes will be refunded.
- Exception 2: if there is a positive case of COVID-19 in the student's class and the class is asked to self-isolate for 14 days, a prorated refund will be granted for those days.

SUMMER PROGRAM COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
We are dedicated to running a successful 2021 summer with the ongoing commitment of our students and staff to take care of each other and respect public health guidelines. All families agree to maximize the safety of our summer program community by:
- Abiding by current Public Health measures in day to day (non-Appleby) life, whatever they may be at the time. This may include maintaining a small “bubble” of exposure outside of the program, remaining physically distant from others and/or wearing a mask in public areas, and practicing proper hand-washing, among other measures.
- Being diligent about illness or symptoms of any kind. Just as has been the case in this school year, it is extremely important to keep students home if they are experiencing any signs of illness or symptoms. We understand that this has implications for families, which is why we are offering the option of purchasing Extended Absence Insurance in 2021. Return-to-program policies will be updated based on our local public health unit’s recommendations at the time.
- Maintaining physical distancing. Guardians should be aware that everyone has different levels of comfort regarding exposure to the virus. If a guardian must be on campus and speak to program staff, guardians should be wearing a mask and maintaining physical distance from all students and staff.
